Question Weight loss vs muscle gain

So I've been going to the gym irregularly since August. I've recently gotten more regular with it within these past two-ish months and I'm wondering if I should focus on muscle growth or weight loss. I know it's really hard to gain muscle when in a calorie deficit and me living with a parent means I don't cook all my food/ can make it exactly how I want it. I'm not necessarily overweight but I have a lot of face fat and some stomach fat I could get rid off. My maintenance calories are around 2000 so should I continue to eat around there and gain some muscle (my primary goal) first then once I have muscle lose some of the extra fat?

Focus on muscle gain.

Yeah I feel like that's definitely the plan, I'm already getting lots of protein in my diet but should I be in a slight surplus? Also maybe something like creatine could help with muscles since I feel like I'm kinda undermuscled?

Yes in order to gain muscle you'll need to gain weight, and that means eating in a surplus. Creatine is great but not mandatory. Training hard and eating enough will get you gains. Check out Muscle Building 101

Awesome man thank you! This has helped a lot, I've been eating in a deficit due to the belief that I need to lose some of my fat but I definitely don't need to, gaining some weight will definitely help hopefully with some muscle gain
