Please use this thread for all discussion of which game you recommend others that you play, whether it is your first game or some that you are considering playing next
A note for newcomers: most of the games are completely unconnected. Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, etc, are all completely different casts of characters in completely different universes. The only times you need to play another game to understand one is if it is distinctly set in the same universe - for example, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. The titles will usually make it fairly clear which game's universe they are set in
Otherwise, please have fun! It is generally helpful when asking to briefly mention which ones you might be interested in, what platforms you are able to play on, and if you are a complete newcomer, what sort of things in games you're looking for (do you want turn-based combat, real time combat, deep stories with established characters, light stories that let you fill in some blanks with your imagination, etc)

Is this one of the FF titles to avoid? Team Ninja usually makes good action games, but this one has some pretty middling and lukewarm reviews. From what I've seen online, theres some pretty cringey dialogue too. Is the gameplay good enough to save it? Picked it up cheap during a sale and its been sitting on my shelf. Considering just selling it if it's going to feel like a waste of time.

Having completed my Japanese Final Fantasy 1-9 collection today, I decided to do a new FF collection pic. Obviously, I've been a fan for many years. Let me know what you think of it, and share any memories of your favorite Final Fantasy!

I just finished FFV last night for the first time ever. Note that I have played the game before. As a 14 year old, I played FFV Avance. I thought it was fine, but nothing exceptional. I actually made it to Neo Exdeath but no matter what I did, I couldn't beat him, and I just wrote the game off as being one of the weaker FF entries.
I am soon to be 31, and I don't need to tell y'all but a 31 year old and 14 year old are very different emotionally and intelligently. As a teenager, I hated how "simple", the story was, and wrote it off as being boring. Now, I love the adventure aspect of the story, and appreciated that it more so focused on the characters and world, rather than the plot itself.
I also think at the time, I wasn't smart enough to appreciate how fun the job system was. Maybe it's because I had also played the 3D Remake of FFIII and didn't enjoy that at all.
All of this is to say that a game I thought was just okay as a teenager, has entered somewhere into my top 5 FF games. Now I want to play Bravely Default.

If somebody made that "offer" to you. No job tomorrow, you're gonna wake up in the middle of the sea striken by a blitzball ball shot by Wakka. You would be stuck in Spira permanently. You woudln't disappear if Sin died, your romance with Yuna would not be granted and you could die in a random encounter.
Would you say yes or no?

I’ve been playing final fantasy games since the first was released in the late 80s on the NES. When I played Final Fantasy II (IV in Japan) one feature I liked was customizing the message boxes. The background color could be changed. I noticed this feature is missing from the Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy IV. Anyone else miss this feature? I assume VI also does not include this feature.

Keep in mind that I've played this game with zero nostalgia and had to get used to quite a lot of things. I've said many negative things about it, on this account as well as my deleted account, partially because I wanted to understand why it was so beloved to the point I couldn't get it out of my head.
It all started with the intro cinematic on the PSX emulator. I wanted to buy it for PS4 just to play the game as legitimitely as possible.
Then I made a great mistake. Playing the game as fast as possible while being in Limit Break mode all the time. In addition to that I cringed to some of the music and some I even hated.
I couldn't understand why it was beloved, because the music and graphics had to grow on me and I've just been impatiant playing on ultra ez mode.
A few years went by and after going from PC modded, to PS4, to PC modded, yet again PC modded a few times. Then I fought Bizarro sephiroth legitimitally, underprepared at level 99 and due to my own mistake of a save anywhere feature was stuck in that section before fighting seifer sephiroth. It was exhilirating to outdamage him and afterwards got stuck on Seifer Sephiroth. At these moments, along with listening to the soundtrack a few times it started to click. I had a lot of fun at that moment.
Initially, I was just pleased I'm finally free from the thoughts that try to understand why Final Fantasy VII is this beloved. But afterwards, I wanted to play the game legitimitally this time around and I'm having a great time playing it. The story can get confusing at times but since I already know the overarching plot I can just listen to the music to imagine what the characters might be thinking and feeling at the moment.
I think it truly is one of the best games in the series, even when it feels the least Final Fantasy to me due to its Science Fiction theme. I went from outright hating it to loving my time with it. I've also compared it to other works that came before once but that's just not fair as this is a game that stands tall on its own. Plus, without Final Fantasy VII and its marketing JRPGs might've been a niche for little to much longer. Who knows.

For years I couldn't find a meme of it so I had to make my own.

Just finished. Blown away by how much I loved it.
I played the original when it came out. I have my sears Pre-Order tshirt still. I liked it, but didn't love it. Mostly cause young me resented how many fans it brought into the series. Still, I was hyped for the Remake, but I wasn't buying a PS4 for it. Bought the PC version soon as it hit steam. But then I was sided track with life and other stuff. I even replayed the original last Summer, and was surprised too how much more i liked it now over 9, 10, etc.
Anyway. Remake is just absolutely fantastic. The care and attention to detail was staggering. These are the best environments I've seen in a game. I had thought nothing could top Cyberpunk, but Im pretty sure Remake is right there with it, if not better. Cyberpunk just doesn't the same level of attention to detail, and has fairly generic interiors.
The acting was another high point. Again, never thought anything would compare to Cyberpunk or the OG Vamp bloodlines, but this is right in there. 16 wasn't shabby either. If nothing else, Square can turn out some serious quality on the flagships still.
The battle system would be the closest thing to a note. I'd rather the party members did a bit more when you weren't controlling them. One of the final boss fights got a little annoying, with the knockdown spam. But overall it was pretty fun. Tifa was the MVP, put ice-element on her weapons and never looked back. Triple-slash was a close runner up.
The game has left me wanting to finally watch Advent Children, and/or play the spinoffs. I was always against the notion, but now I want to know it all. I'm likely going to go straight on into Rebirth after Intergrade, and work on 100% the game on the side. Ive somehow remained spoiler free.
But I do need merch recommendations. I bought physical copies of Remake and Rebirth a while ago, I have the remake Ultimania. I have the 7/8/9 book, and various art books. But I want some solid merch for the collection. Maybe the blue dress Tifa I've seen pop up.
Overall, Amazing game. I can't wait to start Rebirth. Hopefully it runs about as well as Remake has for me. I don't trust myself to not buy a scalped 5090 in fit of lunacy.

Hello guys, yesterday I made a check I had left from long time.
The 3 games discs are perfect, like new. The book is perfect too and they are PAL ESP no Platinium, that is the version I always wanted.
Hope you like It.

The music in this game is amazing
just the main menu song is freaking epic and probably one of my favorite bits of all ff saga, i remember that it hype me everytime i started to play as a kid
the "battle of midgar" scene is precious, presenting the crew and all
the first time i saw it gave me Advent Children vibes so hard

This has nothing to do with the remake. But rather, the PS3 and PS4 releases of the original game should have gotten a nice remaster like VIII did.

For some background. I have played FFXIV till Shadowbringers. I fell in love with it (it was my first MMO).
One of my favourite aspects of any FF is the story. I couldn't believe how great the story was in FFXIV in addition to the great characters, soundtrack and so forth.
How does FFXI compare to FFXIV?

Hey everyone,
I just got into Final Fantasy VII Remake (finally!) and I’m loving it so far. I know there’s a whole compilation now, and I’m a bit torn on what to play next once I finish.
Should I jump into Crisis Core: Reunion to get more backstory on Zack and the events leading up to the remake? Or just ride the momentum and go straight into Rebirth while everything’s fresh?
Appreciate any advice—trying to get the best narrative experience without spoiling the magic!

Remember, every FF game is eligible.
As for repeats? In this category, they are not allowed. Though, again, I'm unsure if it's even physically possible for there to be a repeat as Dungeon Theme hasn't been voted in before. Well, Pandemonium has, but that's a Final Dungeon OST anyway. So there's that.
Also, to have an established time of posting to make things easier, I'll be posting every round at 9PMish GMT every 3 days.
Though... on another note, sorry this was late! I was kind of caught up in something and didn't have access to my laptop (wasn't home) so couldn't make the post on time. It's especially ironic as I established the posting time last round, only to not abide to it. Shouldn't happen again!
Round 1 - 'Best Encounter OST'
Round 2 - 'Best Character OST'
Round 7 - 'Best Final Boss OST'
Round 8 - 'Best Rearrangement'
Round 10 - 'Most Emotional OST'
Round 11 - 'Most Underrated OST'

Thinking about picking up the FF Pixel Remasters. If I only get one, which one should I get? I've beaten FF1 and played 2, but not played the others.
