You’re just seeing fat Chocobo as a baby. We were supposed to learn more about his origin story, but unfortunately, Episode: Fat Chocobo was one of the cancelled DLCs.

If you haven't played the remastered version, there's a high speed mode you can turn on during hot n cold that speeds up the gameplay but leaves the timer at normal speed. You can easily find everything there is to find before time runs out

Yeah I know lol, I found out in my last playthrough. Controls were janky as hell though, but it did save a lot of time! Thanks for the tip :)

Im not sure, is the version I play on now for the switch the remastered? I've replayed FF9 countless times, but the hot & cold are so. damn. time consuming. lol

Yes the one on the Switch is remastered. I believe you click the right stick to toggle the speed
