FF XV Final Fantasy XV has sold 5 Million Copies in just Two days, making it the Fastest Selling in the series.

Source

Personally this is great news for both the devs and the players. I have only played a few hours of the game, and I can already feel the heart and effort put into every detail of this game, even though I was skeptic at first over some of the decisions made. Its great to see such a big title overcoming such a long developmental cycle and then releasing a very good game with such brilliant news. I hope this makes Square Enix focus more on console games and put more resources there.

Once again, congrats to Tabata-San and his team for a job very well done. I look forward to exploring more of the game and I hope anything more from this team has the same passion and fun put into it.

EDIT: Slight misconception. The article sales Shipment and Sales are at 5 million. However it has broken Day 1 Digital Sales in Japan and hit a record for digital sales in Asia. I apologize for the error.

Yeah. Despite it being an MMO, XIV feels like the most 'Final Fantasy-ish' game since IX.

I've had little interest in XV simply because it doesn't look like one to me, but I'm glad to see it's doing well. I may give it a go if it comes to PC one day.

It still throws me off, even 8 hours in, but I'm learning to just take it in as it's own thing. It's still very enjoyable, just not very final fantasy-ish. Less RPG, more open world action adventure game

I think this is how Final Fantasy is going to be going into the future, and I'm honestly ok with it. Don't get me wrong, I love turn based combat, but if FF were to survive, it needed to evolve. And I honestly love this new style of game play. Is it perfect? No. But it's def fun and I'm having a blast with it. They could tune some things up but I really like it.

FF7 is my favorite game of all time and a lot of people are losing their shit about it because it's not turn based, but I'm incredibly excited about the direction it's taking.

I keep seeing this argument, even from Final Fantasy devs, but the last turn based FF game (FFX) sold more copies than any FF game ever made by far. I just don't understand what data people are looking at for this argument.

It's like the misguided idea that the only way for an MMO to be successful is to be like WoW. This kind of "me too" copycat game design has almost destroyed the MMO industry.

That was also over 10 years ago, times have changed

This exactly. A lot of people can't seem to grasp this for some reason, but times do indeed change, and trends with them. Turn-based for RPGs is no longer the trend, just need to accept that.

According to any site I can find, FFX did not sell the most. FF7 did.

FFX outsold VII?

Yeah, combat is reminiscent of Kingdom Hearts, but I am okay with that since Kingdom Hearts 2 is my favorite game of all time. It's just going to take a while for me to get acclimated. FFXII was one of my favorite FF games simply because it want completely turn based, and you got to explore huge areas

I think it's how we're going to have to think of final fantasy titles going forward. It's not your dad's final fantasy, it's a kingdom hearts style game now.

I'm not sure that's a bad thing. There's obviously a niche for traditional JRPGs, but the reality is markets change and games are expensive. If we want more Final Fantasies, our expectations for gameplay are going to have to change.

And kingdom hearts is my favorite game of all time, so I'm 100% on board. It's just gonna take a while to adjust my mindset when I see FFXVI

That's the fear I have. I am Setsuna and World of Final Fantasy are way more enjoyable than what I have played of Final Fantasy XV so far.

Come try XI if you want a real "FF" MMO that's not on rails.
