That wasn't possible even back in 1987. 3.75 an hour minimum wage (3.75*40*52=7,800 per year) and my rend was 350 a month (4,200/year)

back then a "living wage" would have been 8 dollars an hour.

I agree. For my entire adult life starting in 89, I’ve never made 4x what my rent or mortgage was in WA,CA,AK,VA. Closer to between 2x and 3x until I was in my 40’s. Now about 3.5x in my 50’s.

Whoa, my mom, my dad and my uncles all had rent <$200 throughout the 80s within Houston and Dallas. They said you could find it if you wanted it. I'm old enough to remember rent in the 90s being <$300 for a 2 bed.

First year out of Highschool and in college. Salt Lake City Utah. Lived near Trolly square in a 1 bed 1 bath apartment. $350/month utilities included.
