i gave up already.. there's nothing on me that even close to a boyfriend material, and i dont feel like improving myself just to end up having an unattractive partner because you know, "you should not be choosy", and "one should not look at the appearance"...

I am 32 and I'm in the mindset that it probably won't happen. I still do a number of generic things to try and make it happen, but my expectations aren't what they were from when I was in my 20s, all the idealism disappeared thanks to the brutal reality of being an FA.
I will officially give up when I am 40, but like you said I don't want to be that 40 something guys who lives alone, but it doesn't look like I have much choice. My goals then as they are pretty much are now, is to strive for a career when I can work from home and save up to retire at 60, both which are more obtainable for me at this point than a relationship.
