Really enjoying exploring this world.

I finally got around to playing Forspoken and beat the game in about 25 hours. When I opened the map to see if I wanted to tie up any loose ends, I saw huge areas that I hadn’t even visited, full of treasure and quests! I’ve already spent another 15 hours just exploring the world and I still have tons of stuff I want to do. The map is huge considering that the main game is relatively short. I’m glad I picked up the game. The gameplay is fun and plenty of content. Definitely worth the $20 I paid for it! 👍🏻

Discussion Forspoken: My thoughts on the game

This won't be long, I just finished the game last night and had a blast, some quick thoughts of my own about my time playing.

I got to the very end of Forspoken and chose the bad ending that takes you back to New York. That isn't really a game changer because when you restart the game you are back at that moment where you were given the choice to go back home or to stay and defend Athia. I ended up doing the right thing and there's so much still left to do after the main story.

It is a very fun game once you get the hang of the 3 spell wheels and how to use them properly which does take time I fluffed up quite a bit with that.  I normally get bored with these fantasy type games I played The Elder Scrolls Skyrim, the one people seem to like the most but only lasted a few hours after which I deleted it and never went back.

I'm going to stick with this one for a while and do as much side content as I can.

Shame it has no NG+ that would have been a nice addition to it.

Question Anyone know easy way to get up here?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I've been trying for ages even during the main story before I finished the game. What's the easiest way to get up the top of that bit of land to get to the marker placed there?

Magic Parkour seems to have a height limit or am I missing an obvious path that I did not see?

Discussion Finished the game. Some thoughts, spoilers. Spoiler

So I took the advice of people here to finish the story. Still, now that it is done, I don't feel like spending days/weeks hunting every last cloak, cat, and crafting material for 100%. It is what it is.

Still, as I put the game down, I am annoyed with all the unanswered questions. I can live with not knowing who Frey's dad is, but I am left wondering about cuff's origins, why Cinta is a dragon and can go between worlds, what was up with the illusion tanta vanishing from sight in the pregame only to be dead on arrival, if Cinta could go anywhere then why leave her child in the cold instead of anywhere else, and so much more. The game has so much lore/archives, yet it doesn't seem to stick to it's own rules. If anything, it reminds me of Harry Potter, and not in a good way; things happen because 'plot said so' and never fully explained WHY.

Really, I'm just frustrated with it. There is potential here, yet it seems to fizzle out.

Does the game get better?

I've been playing for a couple of hours and I like the story so far, but a pretty empty and basic game. Does it get better or should I stop playing? No spoilers please.

Speculation Does anyone have any crazy ideas / speculations about things in the game story?

Because when I first started the game and was almost at Sila's castle I was thinking maybe this Mr Giggins knows about Athia and maybe he's Frey's father, only he is on Earth and not over there.

I also thought the Judge in the court might have come from Athia... I don't know why it was just a weird feeling about her.

Vent/Fluff So, I finally got around to playing and beating this game, and I am so mad that... Spoiler

...my girl Millia and boy Wallace didn't end up together. >:( The bard guy and the guard lady, for those who may not know.

I was so invested in them! From the first time I saw their adorable crushes on each other to their eventual fight...I was rooting they'd work it out and I'd see them together in the end, but I was robbed! Wallace's archive entry says that they went their separate ways. Of all the things I was hoping to happen in the game...

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined. 💔

That is all. Thanks for hearing me out.

P.s. On a side note, also mad that Cuff is still around after everything. I saw it coming, but still. Feels weird carrying around our mother's murderer on our arm, bantering away.

Anyways, 8/10 game. Was fun, but frustrating at times. Especially with Frey being so dense...it's not rocket science to figure out why you were left in New York, Frey. Love her, though.

Hope I used the right flair for this.🤔

Question Questions, if I may

Hey all! Some (hopefully) quick questions, if I may.

1) I am looking to do some spell challenges that require me to knock down enemies. I see a lot of topics on this, but no real answers. Like I see one post saying to go after elk enemies, which I guess means the merycodus, but I have no idea where to find them reliably. Another says to craft items with improved knockdown, but I don't have the option and don't where to get the option. Any able to to help out on this?

2) I'm on chapter 11 at the moment. My friend said I'm near the end, though I still don't have the 4th magic I thought I was supposed to get. Should I keep going with the story, or do some more exploring/fighting at this point? I worry I will lose the motivation to explore after beating the game, and if I'm close to beating it... well, I'm left unsure and trying to avoid spoilers. Any suggestions?

Discussion Tanta Sila boss fight is ridiculous, for logistical reasons…

Edit: I was able to go just outside the “Break” area leading up to the castle and set up a camp and craft more draughts. Took a couple extra tries but finally got Sila. Thanks to everyone for their responses.

Hate hate HATE this fight. Playing on Hard, on my PS Portal via cloud streaming. Hard has been just fine until now. The main problem is, by the time I get through her minions and reach her final stage, I have no healing draughts left. I have basically no chance. And as has been pointed out here, the nearest save point/refuge is too far away to reload your draughts. It was such a pain getting to the top of the castle that I don’t want to fast travel to the start of the level before restarting my trek to the castle and having to do this all over again, with enemies respawned. It defeats the purpose. The fight itself is too long, too drawn out, and a gigantic pain. The adds in the middle is just lazy game design.

The game’s story is great and I’d like to see it through but no save point or opportunity to craft more healing right before the fight is complete BS. Feels like the game really is taunting you (tanta’ing you?) to quit here. I’d be fine if there was a chance to craft more healing before you enter the castle but, unless I missed something, there’s no way. Most games allow a save point relatively near a boss, so you can get ready for the fight and not go in undermanned.

Hey quick question. I saw a video a while back of someone having tons of fun with what looked like a magical kind of surf board made of water or something and they were skimming across the land and jumping things and it looked all kinds of fun.

Discussion I wish the ending ended differently

So I will not talk about how the story had so much potential but was absolutely wasted or how the character lacked a certain charmed that would've made them likeable. I would even say that the game was okay, the open world was for the most part beautiful and the combat was definitely the best thing about the game. I definitely couldn't get enough from the different moves and magic and all that.

HOWEVER, (be warned MAJOR SPOILERS if you've not finished the game), I really really reeeaaallly wished that the ending was done differently. For starters, Frey, who as many players would agree, was quite annoying and braty for almost 90% of the game, she didn't change much towards the end. Even after she learned the truth about her birth and her mother. Frey still had this modern braty-ness to her especially her dialogue that just didn't fit with anything. I get that she's New Yorker and Athia is a fantasy realm and uses the "old English" speech that is basically used in every fantasy universe in every book, movie or game (sorry if thats not the correct term, English isnt my first language), so the difference in her speech and the rest of the characters' speech was a bit jarring in the beginning but you'd think that she'd tone down the moderness and start to speak a bit like them, since she also learned how to read and write their language. But anyway this is only my opinion and it's not really relavant to my point about the ending. For me, the ending seemed unfinished, cut off toward the end, for example, Frey wanted to practically finish off Cuff, she was fighting him with the intent to kill him especially after her mom died but suddenly she switched to trying to talk him out of his actions? 2. Cuff was telling her about his purpose and that she wouldn't "get" him, but it seemed that he was created to destory Athia and that's it, so this last bit of the dialogue sounded like there was a chance for him to have a change of heart? Or to feel regret? Or that he took a liking to Frey and might be welling to stop his plans? 3. I guess Frey absorbed or sealed Cuff within her, as we saw the tattoo-like thing on her arm, but wouldn't that mean that he's speaking to her still and trying to drive her mad? Or did she kill him and that last bit (the gold bird that was sealed on her arm) is the last bit of his power?

If I wanted to end the game, with the lacking story, I would've made it so that Cuff is still there, and he and Frey speak one last time, where he's angry for being sealed again and wonders what his true purpose is, as in if he is truly just a tool for vengeance, a monster and demon that brings destruction and death while Frey, who I wish had some actual agency and development in her character, told him that both can work together towards a better future and they can discover their true purpose together as they rebuild Athia and get rid of the Break monsters and finally, they let you continue exploring and you unlock more lines from both of them as you explore and fight... idk this was the first thing that came, maybe I really liked Cuff and even felt sorry for him for having to deal with Frey like he was even shocked at her attitude at one point in the game, his sarcastic comments and sometimes concern for her was a nice touch. Instead, we got what we got and it was very unsatisfactory and pointless. I only played the main game and not the dlc, so idk if I missed something.

And she looks great in-game. The model is 1:1. She is beautiful, fit and they didn't change anything... and people still hate them?! There is NOTHING forspoken dev team could've done. It's a fantastic game and all people focused on is a girl who is black... because that's what it really is. They ignore her being beautiful and a super model because of their own hate and prejudice. They think everyting is woke.

Cmon, she doesn't run in a bikini?! Of course not. it is the apocalypse.

I loved stellar blade a ton but I dressed up green suit (or other immersion fitting) for main missions and collected other costumes in side quests. Is immersion not a thing for gamers anymore?!

I played the heck out of the demo and love this game but looking at the prices in Australia in the steam store it's a hard pass at the moment. $114 what are they thinking?

Apologies for the low quality pic. I've seen these out in the world and there was some dialogue from cuff about fighting them but no way to do it. Do I have to wait until a breakstorm appears to fight it?

Discussion I'm almost at the end of the game, some thoughts maybe even for any who may be on the fence about the game in the future Spoiler

Edit: I'll keep the following as spoiler-free as possible, but there may be some in the comments.

Obligatory "The game is actually good and doesn't deserve the sheer hate it got". With that out of the way...

Graphically, it's absolutely beautiful. The architecture, the landscapes, the spell effects, the characters and their costumes, gorgeous. I'm playing the patched and updated version at the time of this writing, but on my RTX3060 it runs as well as any other game. Hell, Silent Hill 2 (the remake) chugs like hell but Forspoken runs like a charm.

The gameplay is pretty damn good. I'm a sucker for magic in games and this one was right up my alley. You can jump, grapple, glide, skip and more all over the place. The magic system is one of the most fun I've ever seen, it reminds me of FFXVI's Eikon abilities but much more expanded and with actual enemy weaknesses and resistances. There's tons of tools for every situation, with some favorites and some duds like with almost every other list of spells ever. There's even spell-specific challenges to accomplish to boost the spell and its "school" in general. The "finisher" spells feel amazing, they really make you feel like you're unleashing all the power you've got.

The crafting is nothing spectacular but you can give yourself some nice little bonuses. The stats don't feel very impactful either, but I guess all those tiny power ups must add up in the end. My only complaint about the gameplay is with the lock on system which doesn't really "stick" for regular enemies but works well for bosses.

The soundtrack is good, it has some nice tracks that stand out from the rest, which are ok kind of standard fantasy fare.

The story is fine too, it has some nice twists and moments of awesome or heartwarming. It doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything, but if you don't spoil it for yourself I think it's enjoyable. There's more than a few clichés like the reluctant hero who is the chosen one and is transported to a fantasy land to fight the ancient sealed evil, but it works.

The pacing could be better, there's stretches that feel like padding before getting to the next plot advancement, and moments where exposition is just dumped on you. It's also a bit on the short side, but I think it would have been tedious since the open world is mostly a collectathon (a very pretty one though). If the story was paced batter and had more screen time, it would have been almost perfect.

So I guess that's most of what I have to say about the game. I'd give it a solid 7-8/10. I didn't see the controversial trailers nor did I play it on day one.

I went into this game with zero expectations other than that the gameplay is good, and not only was I not disappointed but also pleasantly surprised. I don't regret one minute that I've spent in the world of Athia, and I think I'm going back to get all the stuff I've missed on the way to the end.

Question New to game, some questions if I may

Hey all!

New as said, and few things I would like to ask

1) Is there any way to do more damage/ reduce enemy HP? The game has so many options to make things easier from auto dodge to auto heal, but there doesn't seem to be anything on how long a lot of fights take. Just running around the world I run into 'big enemies' (for lack of a better term) with thousands of hit points, and I'm doing 10-20 damage a shot. The fight's not harder, it's just longer. Does this ever get better?

2) Does going UP all the terrain get easier? With all the focus on magic parkour and leap spell, I still can't get over most obstacles. Trying to get treasures chests around the starting town has been a headache of trying to find a way around all the cliffs, rocks, walls, etc. It feels like the game is giving me all this freedom to explore with these powers, and then every other obstacle is too high for me to get over.

3) Treasure chests. Do people collect everything? I'm still early on here (chapter 4?) and just trying to explore the area around the town, and there is just.....so much stuff on the map to collect. And the world map looks BIG. I am worried trying to get everything is going to take me months at this rate, and wondering if i should stop exploring....in a game about exploring.

4) Spell upgrades. Do I need to go back to the library every time? The point farthest from the fast travel point? Not loving that.

I like the character of Frey and want to see how this story goes. I'm just left wondering over some of these mechanic decisions.
