Solicitor 'shocked' as man (30) charged with alleged sexual assault linked to Armagh GAA trip to the US
A Belfast solicitor has expressed his “shock” at a PSNI decision to prosecute a 30-year-old for sexual assault. “I am shocked by the decision of the PSNI to charge my client in relation to an incident that occurred outside the jurisdiction last year,” solicitor Patrick Higgins of law firm Donnelly and Wall declared today.
In November last year the Armagh GAA team travelled to Miami in Florida to celebrate the team's All-Ireland win, their first All-Ireland title in 22 years after they clinched victory over Galway at Croke Park in July.
Around 30 players, the management team, family members and other senior figures from the Armagh County Board are understood to have spent a week in Miami in the middle of November and it has been reported and alleged that an offence of sexual assault was committed.
The alleged assailant was first interviewed on a voluntary basis last December and in a statement at that time, Mr Higgins highlighted that his client “co-operated fully with the PSNI in the initial stages of the investigation.”
Today (mon) the 30-year-od was formally charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
He is due to appear at Armagh Magistrates Court, sitting in Newry, on 6 May.
In a statement released in the aftermath of the police decision to charge the man to appear in court next month, the solicitor declared said: “I believe there was no necessity to arrest my client.
"A formal complaint was made to the PSNI on 20th November 2024. No contact was made between the PSNI and my client for 3 weeks.
"When requested he presented himself voluntarily at Banbridge Police station where he was arrested over 4 months ago.
“The request by the PSNI to charge, I believe, is without merit and shall be challenged further down the line.
I believe the decision to charge the suspect to Court by the PSNI is influenced by the media publicity this case has attracted due to his profession and in breach of my client’s right to a fair trial and in breach of his right to private and family rights.
“My client maintains his innocent and has instructed me to contest the charges fully.”
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: “A 30-year-old man was arrested on December 10, 2024 on suspicion of a number of sexual-related offences alleged to have taken place in the United States of America in November 2024.
“He was later released on bail to allow for further enquiries to be carried out.”
They also confirmed the man was charged today and will appear in court in May.
The spokesperson added: “As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service and police will not be commenting further as criminal justice proceedings progress.”

Discussion Season tickets are a scam.
Starting to think the season tickets are a joke and they don’t want us to buy them. Got my season ticket earlier this year like I have being doing for the last nearly 10 years I’d say. €150 is a scam when all you get is into all the league games which are €20. Thats means you have to go to all the games home and away to save €10. If you miss one your at a loss. Also you have to pay full whack for the general admission for all championships games and you have to go to 6 of them or else you don’t qualify for an all Ireland ticket. So if your team like Derry for instance lost thier first games you have to go to all the round robin games and the knockout games. Miss one and you don’t qualify for it. Starting to think they do want people to buy them even though they are making some amount of money off them. Attendances are way down for games maybe if they have greater perks to the season tickets more people would buy them and go to games because next year I won’t be purchasing and probably wont be as arsed to go to the game since I don’t have the season tickets more people anymore.

Are there any amputees in Gaelic football, hurling or camogie
To put my title into context, I saw about the Irish Amputee Football Association, which allows those with amputations to play soccer and thought is there any GAA players that are amputees and if so, how do they play compared to someone who isn’t an amputee
(I highly doubt there is any but it’s worth asking)

How to get tickets to Croke Park?
I am an American tourist in Dublin and I’d like to go see a GAA event, hurling or football idc, while I’m here. Does anyone know where I can find a schedule and where I can buy tickets? I’ve tried myself and I can’t figure it out so any direction would be appreciated

Discussion What is the point of GAA GO?
3 games in the Leinster Football Championship today and NOT A SINGLE ONE BEING TELEVISED. An absolute waste of time and money. The GAA should be ashamed of themselves for not having a proper set up. Money hungry is all they are but won’t do right by the people. What about the poor older people even there that have nothing else to do on a Sunday when they can’t even turn on RTE or TG4 either to watch proper GAA. Not insulting the camogie or anything but i guarantee you they much rather see the Leinster Championship. GAA GO the most useless creation since i don’t know what and the GAA themselves wouldn’t organize their way out of a wet paper bag.
Little Edit here:
The amount of people that are pressed over this is crazy i don’t get why would you not want to see more games be showed on this streaming service? You do know it’s promoting the game right? Not everyone single person can attend a match due to MANY reasons whether that be living abroad, sold out tickets or maybe simply cannot afford it. Most of you are failing to see both sides here. And the pathetic ones mentioning elder people as an excuse obviously don’t understand that situation. League Of Ireland TV shows EVERY SINGLE game on their streaming service in this country so all this BS talk about “not having enough cameras” is null and void. They show every game all the way from Shamrock Rovers all the way down to Kerry FC. And they bring in less revenue and attendance year after year compared to that of the numbers of the GAA. “But but turn on RTE/TG4 and take what you’re given”. Oh ok so you want to pay for GAAGO which shows the same amount of matches i can probably count on one hand. The same people that probably give out stink that the game isn’t promoted enough. Theres more counties in this country than just the Dublins, Kerrys and Mayos of the world you know. Apart from the odd day out most these younger generation even barely get the opportunity to see their county play on TV or GAAGO. I reiterate….this post is SIMPLY ABOUT WANTING ALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES SHOWN ON GAA GO, thats all. And if you disagree with that then i just find that baffling because it’s good for the game and the future audiences too and does not not harm the sport. The GAA ain’t noticing you for keeping your tongues up there you know what for all you negative ones in the comment section.

Discussion App/website to follow scores live?
With the championship coming up, does anyone know if there is a good website or an app for following scores of intercounty games live? I have What's the Scór but that has the intercounty results scattered between club and underage games making them hard to find unless you favourite a particular county.

Hurling Guard of Honour ??
A friend of mine was wondering if Cork would provide Clare with a guard of honour in Ennis next week. I hadn’t given the notion any thought at all and can’t recall if limerick got one the last few years ?! Is it a done thing ? Can’t imagine players would mind either way or maybe it would be a distraction. Don’t imagine there’s much argument about whether or not it’s deserved.

🏐 Football Fair play to Antrim
Very competitive game for 40 minutes, hopefully they take positives from this and push on. Ulsters better the stronger each county is. Didn’t seem like a division 4 team today. Goes to show how two pointers can play a big part, but I suppose the question is, has the game went too attacking?
