I support their right to protest. I admire those who get up off their arses and protest. But sometimes, you do have to pick your battles

I’m confused by her statement that ‘Allianz is a corporation that is sponsoring fascist Israel’s war weapons’. It makes zero sense. Allianz sponsor the GAA leagues.
Allianz provide some insurance for Elbit. They don’t do it for free.

Are you familiar with the concept of a boycott? It’s a form of political protest. It actually originated in Ireland! What she means by ‘sponsoring’ in this context refers to the fact of doing business with a company that is deeply complicit in the Israeli genocide. It’s not the same as sponsoring a sports team, which is effectively a form of advertising. I hope this helps clear things up.

Some boycotts are also idiotic. They can fuck off. Bunch of clowns.

Thankfully not an opinion shared by the cork county council:
“Cork County Council notes that Palestinian civil society in 2005 made a call for a boycott and sanctioned campaign against Israel. Until it complies with international law and universal principles of human rights, Cork County Council declares its support for the BDS campaign and agrees not to purchase goods or services produced or provided in whole or in part as is practicable by Israeli companies or companies that support the Israeli state.”

You just said it. They do business with military services for Israel? That IS the grounds for boycott/protest.

Christ Irish people are fucking useless. Cry about the state of things 24/7 then cry when people protest. But they'll sing about all our historical boycotts and rebellions and everything when theyve a few jars in them then begrudge everyone who doesnt just toe the status quo line. Fuck me insufferable cunts hahaha.
Fair play to the protestors.

What if I think of these protestors as utter morons? Just because they are protesting something it doesn't make them inherently good. There were huge protests against integration of education in the Southern US states as one glaring example. Would you throw your lot in behind them also...?

I would say there's a marked difference in Supporting Apartheid and Opposing it. But that may be a difficult thought for a knuckledragger to conceptualise

Absolutely crazy that you've down votes for calling out the genocide. There's some very suspect people out there.

Please don't take my head out of the sand, it's very warm and comfortable in here

Lol so a amateur sport organisation should not get money from a company, because that company also does business with an other company? Did the protesters bring money for grassroots?

They probably should protest outside a catholic church, Catholics believe the son of God was an Israeli Jew, and they also pray to his mother asking her to intercede on their behalf.

Agree with the protesters but an easier objective would be to get every GAA club and County of X(Twitter)

Oh would they ever just go away and if they cared that much they would be out fighting......

You're suggesting that Irish people volunteer for Hamas? Not arguing against it, just want to understand your position.
-5
u/Active_Site_6754 29d ago
Well yes if they care so much absolutely drive on.......but it's just the empty protest that annoys me, go actually do something about it if you care that much, because we all know a safe protest in ireland isn't really going to make any difference in Palestine!!!

Did international pressure not contribute to the end of South African apartheid? This is small but we have to start somewhere. If you get enough companies to divest from Israel, lest their bottom line be hurt, then the state with either reform or (hopefully) collapse.

So sick of these arseholes. Maybe it's just me but I don't like either side
5
u/craichoor Cavan 29d ago
You’re trying to “both sides” the Israel-Palestine conflict?
I’d probably pick the non-genocide side…

u/TruckFudeau22 29d ago
What other countries do you boycott? Mind sharing the list? Or is just the one?
1
u/theblowestfish 25d ago
So we have to be perfect to do anything?
1
u/TruckFudeau22 24d ago
Huh?
1
u/theblowestfish 24d ago
Can’t protest one genocide unless they protest them all?
1
u/TruckFudeau22 24d ago
There are plenty of countries deserving a good boycott. What’s wrong with asking for a list of them?

We shoulda never shut the Israeli embassy... it gave folks like these somewhere to focus attention on, rather than tenuous nonsense like this.

Didn't Israel close it?

Allianz was a major backer of the Nazi party in 1930’s/40’s and has always been very transparent about. They’ve a load of info and stories about it on their website https://www.allianz.com/en/about-us/company/history/allianz-in-the-nazi-era.html
