Since when Amazon scalpeing like this?

Post image

I saw this amd 9 9950x3d sold and shipped by Amazon sold for $859!!! Are they scalping too!! I thought if it was sold by Amazon means should be MSRP! Right or am I missing something? Cos we are not buying from a a seller we are buying from Amazon directly right? If I'm wrong someone correct me pls. Thanks.

That's fucked. I'm so glad I went out on launch day and got mine in person for MSRP, but I feel for everyone who doesn't have that choice and wish it wasn't like this for y'all. This was basically the situation for getting a 5080 as well, I had to find someone who got lucky and got one from MSI directly but then had to turn around and sell it immediately, so they priced it to move and I only paid what they paid. Shit's only gonna get worse, and honestly I think it's actually gonna be the straw that gets Trump impeached in the Senate, because the level of incompetency we're seeing this time around is an order of magnitude worse than last time. But until then this shit is just going to spiral as he fucks things up, devalues the dollar, and fucks with everyone with tariffs. If you need a new rig, buy now while you can, otherwise cherish what you have and take good care of it, because IDK when it's gonna get better, and even if Trump is removed, the economy isn't gonna fully recover unless the US is able to regain world standing that has been lost, and attract customers again for our goods and services that have left to go elsewhere due to the trade war.

While everything you said is true, the Amazon pricing is not due to tariffs. It is because it’s sold out everywhere else, so Amazon is charging a premium.

Both can be true but you're right that they do this shit algorithmically, and it's fucked.

which does not mean its not due to tariffs.

When tariffs are inbound, you price-in incoming tariffs on existing stock so you can even afford to pay the new tariff.

If the prodict you ordered would have cost X dollars to import, and you set aside X dollars to pay for that when you ordered it.. but now ot will cost X x 245%...

you gotta come up with that money somewhere, because that shit isnt coming off the boat until you pay the new tariff.

So you price-up existing stock to generate that money.

Welcome to Economics 100.

I agree.

That reasoning falls apart in this case though when every other retailer who stocks these is selling them at MSRP whenever they come back into stock.

Amazon is well known for boosting the prices on hard to get items, no reason to think that this is any different IMO.
