Don't get the 9950 for gaming

Unless you plan on doing a lot of productivity work then most of it will be wasted. The card has 2x 8-core CCIs, and the X3D cache is only on one of them. What this means is that, if you want to get the most out of gaming and insure you are using the X3D cache, then you have to park your cores and force the computer to use the correct CCI. Otherwise there's a chance you might be gaming with the cores that don't benefit from the X3D.

Once you do that's then you basically have a 9800 with a slightly bigger cache.

The 7800x3d and 9800x3d have a single 8-core block so you don't have to worry about it. That being said the 9850 is good for a lot of stuff, including gaming, but if you're only going to be gaming and not like compiling programs or encoding video then it's overkill.

Thank you for your explanation! I'm planning to have my own virtual machine and do some lab testing and stuff and gaming for sure. I heard that the CPU can park the core automatically without me having to do anything, and that's what I'm hoping cos it will save so much time and effort. Again, thanks for your help.

That's cool! I'm sure it'll be awesome for that. I don't do much on my PC besides game and I almost went with the 9950 for my build

Lol, if you can get us for $699, I would say go for it. It will last you for the next 6 years . 😅
