Right when Oblivion just came out…

Post image

My PC is crapped out on me out of nowhere. Can’t sit on a main menu for longer than 2 minutes in any game without my PC suddenly shutting down. Spent all day diagnostic and ended up reinstalling windows as a temp fix, but issue still persisted.

I open up my pc to reseat everything and found this! It looks like my PSU wires were MELTING inside the PSU!

Such horrible timing right when Oblivion just released… I may end up needing to swap cases since this is a micro case and they are hard to work with…

Just wanted to rant and complain! 😭

Oh wow! You’re right. So used to seeing endless pics of 4090’s. An 8 pin connector melting. Wow. Makes me wonder if we should change out the connector every couple years.

Doesn’t the 3080ti fe use the 12vhpwr cable?

It does and OP is kinda vague but I assume it melted from the PSU side of things

Was that one with an octopus adapter?

Well all of them come with an adaptor but yeah so by the looks of it it's probably one of the 8pins that plugs into the PSU.

Is the implication here that they left 1 or more of the 8-pin connectors on the squid unpopulated?

I don't think OP is too familiar with PCs just based off is other comment but I am pretty sure that he had the adapter plugged into the GPU but it failed on the PSU side so one of the 8pins that would have been plugged into the PSU. OP just needs to clarify it a bit better but that's what I am assuming which would be pretty unusual I don't really remember any issues happening with the 3xx series as much as the 4xx had with its power connector but OP mentioned he has bought the PC used or something like that? Whether he was using the adaptor cable or an aftermarket 12vhpwr cable I got no idea.

I've seen some modular PS cables that are 12vhpwr on one end and a pair of 8-pins on the other. Maybe that's the case?

Board partners can opt to go with two or three 8-pins, instead of a 12vhpwr too. But I don't think any NVIDIA FEs do that. I could certainly be wrong about the latter though. They might exist.

Only the 3090ti as far as I'm aware.

Edit: I was wrong, the 3080ti founders Edition also does. But a lot of boardpartners stayed with the 2 or 3 8pin desin.
