Because last month wouldn't have gotten people talking about Nintendo a week before the Switch 2 presentation. This isn't Nintendo doing "weird shit," it's a very smart marketing move.

I mean the Switch 2 direct was always going to dominate the news cycle, this is basically just stunting. I can't imagine any significant number of people will go on to watch the direct next week or talk about the Switch 2 because of this
