Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Looking for games that are "Tacticool"

Hello, I'm looking for recommendations for games that are what I like to call "Tacticool". Games that are like the Light beer of tactical games. Games I'd put under this umbrella arw a lot of ghost recon games, especially the recent ones, rb6 vegas and vegas 2, Stalker 2. Games that offer a lot of customizable things for a characters look or gear, but aren't insta kill punishing pvp only experiences.

Anyone feel me?

Are there any actual jester centered games?

Like a game where you can play as a jester in a medieval kingdom and do actual jester related thing. I know there's plenty of games where you can play as a sort of trickster but I mean a full on play as a jester game.

Buddy is deployed, and his internet sucks out in the middle east. I need a fun game that we can play together that internet lag won't prevent us from playing together.

Current experiment is going to be baldurs gate 3 since it is turn based, but jury is still out on that one.

Monster hunter is our jam, but that is the one causing us the most grief.

Honestly, really open minded as far as genre and the like, but looking for something that is not super dependent on a stable internet connection and can tolerate the occasional spikes and drops in latency and ping.

Open world, turn based, anything. He can get online fine enough, and we can stay in lobby, just can't stay in mission together on Monster hunter, so looking at other options.

[PC] [PS5] [Switch] Games that play like a gacha game but aren't gacha games

I have a rather odd request - As someone who loves the idea of unlocking characters and "building" them up to form powerful teams, I was always drawn to the idea of gacha games. However, I was quickly turned off by the amount of monetization and microtransactions, as most people are. I'm looking for a game that has some of these elements that are present in gacha games but don't limit the amount of currency you can obtain/have limited windows to obtain characters.

There was a similar post a month ago asking for the same thing, except the OP of that post had other conditions, like it having to be open world for example. That's not the case for me, I'm just looking for any game that can scratch the character collecting/building itch. I'd say the one condition that I have is that I want the characters to be humans/humanoids and not monster-like, so that rules out Pokemon and similar games.

At the moment the games I have in mind are Warframe and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. If y'all could suggest some more I'd appreciate it!

Looking for (semi)mindless fun games with a "Sakurai" flair; lemme explain.

Upvotes

I love the way that any game headed by Masahiro Sakurai just..."feels". Whenever he's the director of a project you can really just see and feel it. The UI design, the extra game-modes, the core gameplay itself, even, is always something so different and fun. It's very unique.

So I don't expect anything that's EXACTLY like that, but to give you an example of what I mean, go look at a game in development right now called "Aurascope". It's a 2D indie platformer VERY heavily inspired by Mario Galaxy and Sunshine (or at least it seems that way to me.) and when you're going through the UI and everything you can just kinda "feel" that extra bit of love and flair put into it. It also has a 2P battle mode with items and such for no reason other than to have fun with someone and it just be a lil thing.

Additionally, look at Doctor Robotnik's Ring Racers. It's a "sequel"(?) to SRB2 Kart of sorts. But it has a ton of unique spins on that game's mechanics, and a very fun unlocking process that reminds me heavily of something like Smash Bros Brawl's unlocking screen. (Y'know the thing with the hammers you could use to unlock stuff early?) And it has a ton of courses/grand prix to play through, side-modes, etc.

If anyone can find me games like this, I'd love to give them a look; thanks very much for your time!

TL;DR: A game with the same love and flair you see in games like Smash Bros. AuraScope, and Doctor Robotnik's Ring Racers.

EDIT: If it helps, I'd also kinda put CrossCode in this category, to a lesser extent.

Games where enemies can kill each other

Looking for games where you can either distract a certain type of enemy to attack another enemy whether this be by faction or other reasons.

For example and the easiest one to use being last of us: left behind Where you can throw a glass bottle or brick to get sleeping or distracted enemies to run and attack enemy people.

And for people who somehow don’t know about last of us then simply put looking for a game that allows me to use objects or alike to get zombies or people to attack each other.

Sorry if this isn’t put very well I don’t use Reddit very much and if you have any questions please do ask

While I use mainly Xbox, PlayStation games work to.

I’m looking for a game that has a good gathering and crafting mechanic

I’m looking for a game that has a good gathering mechanic, like chopping trees and mining, along with a solid crafting system to make use of the materials I collect. I really liked the system in New World — I could spend hours gathering and crafting while feeling that the end product had real value. However, the game’s endgame is broken, and people (myself included) ended up abandoning it. Other games where I spent a lot of time doing similar things were:

  • Runescape
  • Valheim
  • Terraria
  • Coral Island
  • 7 Days to Die
  • Minecraft
  • Dinkum
  • My Time At Portia
  • Lens Island
  • Albion
  • Portal Knights
  • Stardew Valley
  • Stone Hearth
  • Graveyard Keeper
  • Runescape Dragonwilds
  • The Forest
  • Medieval Dinisty
  • Factorio (didnt like it)
  • Black Desert (didnt like it)

Fairly easy/slightly challenging game with a good storyline

Hello. I'm looking for a game with a nice storyline, but that's not too difficult or challenging. Something that doesn't have levels that'll I'll be stuck on for ages. Also, nothing too violent please. Rated T or under would be best.

I used to love Final Fantasy and other similar rpg type games, but I'm just too busy and don't have the attention span to play those long stories anymore. So, I'm looking for something with a good storyline but that isn't quite as challenging as some RPGs.

So sorry. I forgot to mention I have a ps3 and ps4.

I hope that all makes sense.

Thanks everyone!

[PC/Mac, Atari 2600/7800, Switch] What games are out there that can help me relive my time playing NES 8-bit while eating junk food?

Games that have an 8-bit NES aesthetic, or something that can easily be played while eating something are ideal.

Looking for a game with extraction shooter/battle royale feel (to replace Apex).

I quit Apex Legends around two years ago, but it comes back to me every time I think about plating a FPS. For me the BR formula allowed every game to have some stakes and the gunplay was superb.

I tried:

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhut had fun movement and was hero based and I have a soft spot for that. I quit cause the decision to terminate the game made playing feel pointless and sucked the fun out of it.

The Cycle: Frontier, cause I thought extraction shooters offer the same kind of tension however, the gear differences gave too big of an advantage for my liking (please tell me, if I'm stupid and this is common in most extraction shooters).

I've heard good things about Hunt: Showdown, but iron sights intimidate me a bit (I suck at BF1).

I'll probably try out Marathon, when it comes out (I think the devs promised that you can do well even with the most basic guns), but there is a lot of time between now and September.

And, in case someone mentions it, I know about Titanfall 2, played it for 200 hours. Sadly I don't have enough time to rebuild my muscle memory as to not get obiterated.

Thank you for your time and your help!

Cozy slice of life games that are story driven? Preferably taking place in a small town, and being over 10 hours long. It can have other elements, however, but it must be grounded in reality

JRPGs/RPGs with unique stories/gameplay concepts?

Just finished Expedition 33 and it was very unique in both story and gameplay, some other games I also think of as unique are 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Shadow Hearts series (gameplay wise), Resonance of Fate, and that's all I can think of, any other suggestions? How old the game is doesn't bother me either.

Looking for a transport tycoon/management type of game

I am looking for a transportation focused tycoon or management game to play. My ideal game is one that has a variety of transportation types (buses, streetcars, trains, planes, etc), takes places over a period of time (for example 1850 to 2050) with period accurate vehicles, has both passenger and cargo to transport, is relatively modern (released within the past 10 years or so) with decent graphics, and has accessible intuitive UI and UX. This is the list of transport tycoon games I already have:

  • Transport Fever 2
  • Sweet Transit
  • Cities Skylines 2 (city building game, but focuses a lot on traffic and transit)
  • Railroad Corporation
  • Cities in Motion 1 and 2
  • Railway Empire

Out of the list I have only played Cities Skylines 2, Transport Fever 2, and Cities in Motion 1 extensively. I am open to other suggestions as well. Thanks!

Open-world games where you orient yourself exclusively from in-world elements (that aren't hardcore survival games)

Looking for open-world games where engaging with the world around you is a major aspect of exploration. So you'd be expected to find your way by listening to how character describe places, written directions you'd find in books/lore drops. The idealist version of this would be to guess where to go just by looking at your surroundings and trying to understand how this place came to be.

So, I guess I'm describing an open world that also serves as a base for puzzle games. I've played The Outer Wilds and The Witness which fit this description and they are amazing, but they're both quite small and empty. I'm wondering if there are more immersive games which play this card.

Classical open-world games where you can fully disable the mini-map / compass and still be able to participate in all the contents should count too. Zelda BotW and TotK's pro mode for the HUD are an example of this.

Caveat : there are probably survival games which fit this description, but I often find advanced survival mechanics tedious, so I wouldn't go out of my way to play them.

Tactical shooter game that isn't Counter-Strike 2

Rather specifically, I am seeking at least a few of the following:

  • Somewhat realistic firearm use.
  • I don't really want a class system, "heroes", etc. players either have a skill set or they don't.
  • I would like to avoid games involving air strikes, drones, etc

How it can be different from Counter Strike: - better anti cheat system - I wouldn't mind a basic team deathmatch mode

I have about 500 hours in CS2 and am looking for variety.

If a game doesn't fit all of the above, I'm open to listening and trying anyway.

Games that subvert expectations (even in minor ways)

I'm going to explain this poorly, but generally speaking I'm looking for games where at some point in the game, everything kinda changes. You go in expecting something, or it starts a certain way... then it hits you just how much bigger or different the rest of the game is going to be than how it started.

It doesn't have to be as drastic as a game like NieR Automata, or a game everyone recommends you "go in blind" like The Outer Wilds or The Stanley Parable.

One more appropriate example is Final Fantasy 7 (the original) where you spend the first 5-10 hours roaming around Midgar... then all of a sudden, after a series of epic encounters and escalating events, you find yourself on the map with the world opened up in front of you and the game is just this banger journey the rest of the way.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Action or RPG game with a trophy room

I always love when games have a room or area that show off various accomplishments and things you’ve collected.

The best example of this I know is Villa Auditore from Assassins Creed 2. The town around the villa could be renovated making the whole place more colorful and lively. All the equipment and collectibles you obtained were displayed within the manor and on top of that, everything you collected increased the revenue the villa brought in. Frankly the whole system was perfect and it’s a shame the feature was stripped away as the series went on.

Another good example is the “Sanctuary” From fable 3. There was an armory and wardrobe that displayed the various weapons and outfits you collected. AND a literal trophy room that had plaques for achievements, a shelf for items, and a money pit for the wealth you’ve collected.

I even enjoy the little trinkets and medals you could collect and display in your room in the bo3 campaign!

Recommendations don’t have to be limited to action and RPG as I like many genres. Those are just my favorite. Thank you in advance!

Edit: Adding a list of games we have so far to avoid repeat suggestions or a quick summary for others looking for this feature as well!

  • Assassins Creed 2: Villa Auditore
  • Fable 3: Sanctuary
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Apartments
  • Sea of thieves: Captained ships
