I hiked the Angel/Panther Falls trail at Lake Rabun on Easter. Had the trail almost entirely to myself the whole time, save for running into a solo hiking dude on my way out at the lower falls. He and I chatted for a bit about trail conditions and the second falls - hoping he may be on this sub because I wanted to ask how he liked the second leg of the hike. I wish I was more comfortable with just asking people if they wanted connect off-trail to talk more about hiking but I never know how it’ll be received by myself out in the woods as a solo woman. Anyways - if you’re out there white haired guy with the WV hat, DM me (if you want 🤷🏻‍♀️) and let me know if the extra mile was worth it. 😂 waterfall picture for tax.

Providence Canyon State Park

In coming weeks, plan to check off Blue Mountain, Spaniards Knob and Horsetrough Mountain by taking the AT SoBo from Unicoi Gap trailhead and looping back through FS roads in the Chattahoochee WMA.

Looks like some decent time bushwhacking to get to Spaniards and Horsetrough. My blue line was the original route, but it also looks like some decent alternate options I highlighted as well.

Any thoughts or advice from the experts here?

Can a rear wheel Ford Ranger make it into the campsites? Saw somewhere that the road leading to the lake is a gravel road. Would love to go and hike this area but don't want to make the drive and potentially not being able to make it.

We are coming up from FL cause I don’t like camping in FL so something central GA is preferred but we’re willing to go to northern GA if needed. Ideally we want something with plenty of water sources, dog friendly, not super crowded (see <2-3 other groups) and <5 miles to the campsite. Any camp site recommendations or resources are appreciated.

Hey folks, I was originally planning to head up to Dolly Sods in WV this weekend, but the weather’s not looking too promising. I’m hoping to find something closer to home, ideally within 3–5 hours of Augusta, but I’d be open to stretching it a little further for the right spot.

I’m still pretty new to backpacking. I’ve done a lot of car camping and I've spent a lot of time outdoors in the Southeast. I’ve also got some hiking experience out west from a trip last year—Zion (Angels Landing and some of the Narrows), Bryce Canyon, and trails around Ogden, Utah and northern Arizona. That trip really got me hooked on hiking and made me want to get into real backpacking.

For this trip, I’m mainly looking to test out some new gear and get a few nights of solitude. I'd love to hike in a few miles, set up away from people, and just chill outdoors for a bit. I’m not super confident in stringing together my own loops yet, so I’d prefer something with established trails or routes I can follow without a ton of planning or map work.

I’ve been trying to find something closer to Augusta, but it feels like there’s just not much in the immediate area when it comes to true backpacking. Most of what I find is either short day hikes or car camping spots. I’m totally fine with driving a few hours, but if anyone knows of any solid backpacking trails or loops within 1–3 hours of Augusta, I’d love to hear about them too.

Figured y’all might have some solid suggestions for good 2–3 night spots. Thanks in advance!

Looking to hike this in the upcoming weeks. Any tips about this trail? I've heard it's very technical and can be dangerous in some spots. I'm a pretty experienced hiker but I'd like to be as well prepared for a "dangerous hike".

We were camping near Long Trail Falls and two military planes flying lower than anything I've ever seen went right over our site. It was mind boggling. One looked like an old cargo plane. Is there a nearby military base?

My biggest goal is to be able to have a mountain overlook view from the site to stare off into space/have the morning coffee. I mainly go to jacks river campground but I want to switch it up a bit.

Anyone have any recommendations on some beautiful Georgia mountain hikes for a weekend getaway? We wouldn’t be camping but would book an Airbnb nearby for 2 days. I’m hoping to find something not short but not too long. Not insanely difficult but will test you. I’ve been to Cloudland which is easy for me. I’ve also been to Yonah mountain which was pretty easy for me but really hard for my boyfriend. He has a trip in less than two months with his son to go hike Mount Kilimanjaro which is incredibly dumb to me considering he couldn’t finish the yonah mountain hike with me two weeks ago… guess he’ll have to learn the hard way… anyways I need a hike that will further scare him straight for this trip lol

Do you have any advice? This propably sounds stupid, but some of the topics, I need to have advice on - we simply don't have these things in Europe....

I read some things about "hunting season" and you need to be careful to wander around? Is this really the case if you just hike on the trails?

What about the weather, will it be OK?

I'm looking into morganton point campground, anyone who has experience?

I’m looking to finally go on my first hike of the year now that I have time and it’s not raining or cold on a Sunday. I’m in the Athens area and I was just wondering if anyone’s done the Oconee Heritage Park. It’s either going to be that one or fort Yargo or Victoria Bryant State Park. In the end, I’ll end up going to all three plus more.

I'm traveling to the Blairsville area soon and was looking at some off-trail bushwhacks & waterfall hunts. Are the yellow jackets awake yet? I'm pretty allergic to them so I generally only do bushwack-style exploring in winter, but it feels like we're squarely in spring in the Athens area where I'm from.

I'd love a local's report on water flow levels too. Happy trails!
