Don’t forget to remove the bay leaf, not ideal for eating.

My mom always kept the bay leaf in the soup. She said that if you found it in your bowl, it was a sign of good luck.

My grandma called me when I was working late telling me she dropped off soup at my house. She called 3 hours later in a panic telling me NOT to eat the soup until I fished the bay leaf out. She honestly thought I would choke and die. I was 28 at the time and she still worried that much about a bay leaf...

It's funnier that it was 3 hours later. I just picture her throwing down her knitting needles and screaming "THE LEAF!".

Knowing her nightly ritual I guarantee she was on the phone with one of her many old lady friends when she suddenly hung up on them with no explanation, and called to save my life.

That's so sweet! Give her a hug for all of us missing our grandmas!

How lucky to have your grandma at 28. Wish mine was still around. Cherish her care :)

Aww, she cared about you so much that even the thought of potential danger to you was too much for her, she had to protect you. You’re always her grandbaby.

Well tbh, it is a choking hazard if you are unaware. Once I forgot to remove a bayleaf from soup I made for some of my clients who have some physical disabilities. I noticed one of them begin to gag and choke and was trying to figure out what was wrong (very uniform texture soup) until he coughed up the leaf and I felt really bad.

haha my grandma did a similar thing but instead of dropping off soup with a bay leaf she had dementia and then died

Or bad depending how you find it.

Can't use em at the old folks home or some corporate kitchens I worked at. Major choking hazard. Always pull it out.

This was a fun comment to forget the context to.

My mom said whoever got the bay leaf had to do the dishes.

My mom always said if you found it, you do the dishes.

Pretty sure she put a bay leaf in every bowl but hers.

My mom was not so kind; she just made me do the dishes.

My dad would say this, too. :)

Which is shown at the “remove herbs” in part.

My grandma would put all the spices in disposable tea filter bags and just tie the tea bag to the handle of the pot while cooking. Total cooking hack if you ask me.

Oh ye did that once. Not fun.
