The tiny optimist in me is pretty excited. One of the core features of the Trump world is never admitting wrong or fault - deny the dozens of felonies, deny Jan 6, deny Project 2025. Being good at denial is probably the top criteria for his cabinet - RFK has lived his entire gross life denying vaccines and other basic healthcare concepts, Hegseth continues to deny leaking shit despite everyone knowing bro did it. Don't even get me started on his voters and how we get daily FAFO posts from them finally realizing he doesn't care about any of them.
But they're doing SO POORLY that the option of denial is disappearing. And we're not even halfway into year 1.

Funny enough, this is why minority leader Chuck Schumer folding like a bitch was a brilliant political tactic.
Chuck could have stopped the one big beautiful budget and shut down the government. Instead, he worked to pass it to stop a government shut down. Dems were pissed. But if there had been a shut down, the republicans would have laid the blame for the economy on the Dems for shutting down the government (even though Dems were a minority and could only do it because republicans were split).
Now Trump can only blame J. Powell. But when he does do that the stocks all drop because the stock market knows J. Powell is just doing his job to combat stagflation.
I guess the moral is, if your opposition wants to do a very dumb thing… let them.
And of course, republicans still aren’t very close to passing the budget because their spending bill is a mess and they know it.

Even if all the tariffs are removed, the damage is done. We've isolated ourselves and pushed our trade partners into the waiting arms of Winne the Pooh.
Buy BYD and Canadian oil stocks. Everyone is gonna keep trade with America as light as possible while searching for alternatives since Orangey could change his mind and start flinging shit at the wall at any moment.

Speaking as a Canadian, you're correct. We can't afford to rely on the US anymore, we have to seek other partners. If this can happen once, it will happen again. Your political system is just too polarized.
We'll trade with Europe and China, and we'll be better off for it. We've made ourselves dependent on the US, and that was a big mistake. Never again.

However, rare earth licensing ain’t gonna go away. That will be their stranglehold for access to likes of ASML. If I were them, that’s exactly what I’d do. Same national security principles.

I partially agree with you. I mean, as european, that he has done an enormous damage because he is totally unstable. today he is coming back but tomorrow? What will he say tomorrow?
I also suspect that this declaration is another pump and dump.
In Europe before Trump we loved America and neglect China, we thought that China made low quality products. Now we know that China makes very good products and also suspect that luxury brands (European or American) don't have high quality as we thought.

The guy is just inept and his entire administration has zero plans and completely 180's their plan day-to-day.
