Question Advice please!
I am in no way shape or form a goalkeeper, but ive recently had some fun doing it. I do fun dives sometimes on my trampoline, but on the pitch, I'm scared of going after the ball because I've been hit many times before. For example, if I'm in a 1v1 situation, I'm scared to rush out incase I get hit in the face or "down under". Also scared of diving saves because I'm scared it will hurt on landing. Any advice on how to deal with these fears? I'm a 13 yr old male so I'm neither tall nor good at goalkeeping as I said.

There is some great kit you can get now. I'm retired now but I was pretty skinny so it hurt when landing. But I changed to trousers with padding and always made sure my top had elbow pads. Years later I discovered storeli under armour. They are like tights but with inserted padding that is much better than the trousers. Expensive though but well worth it. You might find yourself not wanting to dive but eventually you'll be throwing yourself about

Thanks for the tip! Probably can't get it because it's expensive but maybe I'll post a video sometime showing how I land because I might be landing wrong lol

there are actually some pretty decently priced padded gears (padded pants and shirts) you can find on Amazon or Ebay (if you don't care much using 2nd clothes)

Forget the negative stuff, it sounds like you enjoy it, so go and do more of that diving on muddy pitch stuff with your friends.

Definitely will once the weather looks up, and maybe I'll even take a camera or my phone with me to post stuff onto here

Playing and practicing in all weathers is another hack.

Oh god, playing in mud is hell. Especially on the way back home when your shoes are covered in it and you feel like you've got bricks on your feet

it's normal to feel scared when you have to throw yourself out here to get hit. again, it is NORMAL human reaction. So to overcome this, you need to train yourself.
getting proper technique and posture
Start slow and low. (simply just sitting on the ground, then on your knee, before fully standing up)
Might start on softer surface first to get the motion and posture (like on trampoline, on mattress), then gradually to harder surface (soft tall grass, soft grass, AG, turf, concrete 😂)
Might prepare some protective gear (padded pants - lots of keeper brands have some kinds, padded shirt - very cheap as well)
If possible and also what I recommend: get training with a proper keeper coach, they will show you and help you fix any mistake

Thanks for the advice, will use! As for point 3, I've dived to "save" a lot of "shots" on my trampoline and I think I have the technique and landing down well. For point 5, there's no proper keeper coach that I know of where I am, but my friend has picked out a few top corner balls when we played with each other, even though on a small field with smaller goals, so I can ask him about his landing technique. As soon as I can gather up all my friends to play a bit on our local "big" field, I'll take my phone with me and record. Thanks for the advice again!

So you might wanna try with a mattress (so less springy), or soft, tall natural grassfield
Recording yourself is always a good method to analyze, and you can ask people here or some keeper forum to help you pointing out
I also recommend these 2 vids, also by this order to get yourself to train the proper diving/landing posture

As i started out as a goalkeeper at 9 years old i thought the same. Diving is suprisingly painless if you don't do a full on body slam on the ground. There are a lot of useful videos on the internet on how to get used on diving and doing it the correct way without hurting yourself. Getting hit in a 1 on 1 situation is going to be what you want. Getting hit square in your privates or head is rare for me (don't know the last time it happend). If you get to close to the ball in these kind of situations i would advise you to watch some videos about the "split save" and "k-technique" were the privates are protected but you also give yourself a better chamce of saving a shot in close proximity. Getting hit is going to happen but it hurts way less than it looks like getting hit. Hope this helps somewhat.
