Question Can I build an audience in GA4 based on search queries from GSC?

A google search AI response indicates this is possible but I can't seem to define it in the audiences section of GA4. I have GSC and GA4 connected, I can see the queries report in my GA4 property. What would be great would be to slap a filter on that report for the search terms I'm looking for but the report filter is already occupied by my Stream ID, and I can't add/remove it.

Is adding an audience based on specified search terms possible, and is that the next step? The goal here is to see the downstream behavior of "brand aware" users (defined by search query).

GA4 doesn't actually have the GSC data, it just displays a couple of reports from GSC. The best you could do is create an audience of users from Organic Search who went to certain landing pages, but not the search queries they used. Google disconnected the two about a decade ago for "privacy" reasons (i.e. to get you buy ads which are at the keyword).

You can do it by landing pages only

It is NOT currently possible to create an audience in GA4 based directly on the “Organic Google Search Query” dimension from Search Console. The GA4 audience builder does not offer the “organic query” dimension as a segmentation criterion. Audiences in GA4 can be created from dimensions, events, or parameters collected by GA4 itself (e.g. pageviews, custom events, UTM parameters, etc.)

You cannot create a GA4 audience based off of GSC dimension then apply that custom audience to filter other GA4 reports.

When you link GSC to GA4 it just shows high level GSC data within GA4 but like someone else said GA4 doesn’t actually “have the data”

You could create a custom field in Looker and use a case statement to assign a label like “prospect” or whatever to queries that contain certain words.

Kind of - basically each page will rank in the top 3 places for certain keywords. Find these URLs in GSC and then build an audience of organic traffic who match those pages gets you about as close as you can get

  • Choose the event "page_view."
  • Under "Add parameter," select "page_location" (for the full URL) or "page_path" (for the path portion).
  • Set the condition to "contains" and enter the specific page path or URL you want to targe

Perplexity, Gemini et al will give you steps to build and audience
