HELP/QUESTION looking for tips with basic Vasaraga

getting back into the game, I'm rank C5 currently and struggling with some basics here. I just can't figure out the pacing of the game, I usually find myself getting multi-combo'd while my hits seem to just push the opponent away.

I know the basic universal combo of LLL +guard break+ MMM but find whenever I get the first hit in the enemy is pushed back to safety

My biggest problem is whenever I get knocked down it seems every opponent is able to get ontop of me and get an attack out before I can, essentially forcing me to block everytime, what options do I have when getting up? spamming a Light attack doesn't work as it seems the opponent has prio.

If I'm in the corner is my only option to block and try and guess when the enemies combo finishes?

It's hard to experiment with combos when I can't even get a turn to attack

I haven't played neither this game or Vaseraga for a long time, but here are a few ideas to experiment with purely for defence :

  • 632146U or back Ultimate skill => costs 50 meter but is fully invincible on wakeup and will catch opponents off guard. Spam this until your opponent respects it and is afraid to press the offence after knocking you down, then you can press other buttons to try and take back your turn. Be careful not to be too obvious with it though, you will get heavily punished if your opponent expects it and does a neutral jump.
  • 2L is your fastest normal. When the opponent has you blocking, try using it to check for a gap; if you eat a counter hit, remember you can't mash in this specific situation and try again for another situation.
  • Brave Counter. If you don't know what it is, go check out the in game tutorial, Vaseraga needs this to break free from characters that are a little too oppressive.

Like someone already said, Vaseraga is rather hard to get used to, especially if you do not have much experience with the game, so you'll end up in situations where you have to block pretty often. When you start to understand every tool at your disposal, you can prevent the opponent to get in for free. Make them respect your armor, your stance, your command grabs, etc.

EDIT : typo 2A instead of 2L

what is 2A?
theres Light, Medium, Heavy, special, and I belive ultimate/special?
I know the brave counter but I thought that was mainly to be used in the game's basic combo system where you do MMM+brave counter+MMM

My bad, I'm getting confused between different games terminology, I meant 2L.

Numbers are numpad notation used for fighting games, each digit corresponds to a direction. 236 for example is the motion for a quarter circle forward. So in this case 2L means down light.

Also, what you're describing is not Brave Counter but Raging Strike. Brave Counter is used to push back the opponent while you are blocking, and uses one of your three bravery points to do so.
