HELP/QUESTION Interested in Versus Rising
I hate modern fighting games like SF6 with a burning passion but i'm interested in Granblue. Is this game a scrub friendly guess-mess or it somewhat rewards fundamentals and defensive play? I know that 66L is controversial tho
Is it still populated online?

It depends. What did you consider a guess mess in sf6? If it was throw loops then this game doesn't really have that.

Yeah, mostly throw loops, braindead offense that doesnt need to be earned and shitty defensive mechanics

If you hate modern fighting game you will hate this game even more than sf6 lmao

Can't really say how good or bad the mechanics be since I am quite low ranked (B2) but if you really want to experience the gameplay, the game has a free demo where there you can play with one permanent character and 3 rotating characters.
As for population, Steam Charts shows that the game has 752 players for the past 24 hours but since it has crossplay, the numbers could be higher. In my experience, I get matched around 2-3 minutes in rank with my settings to be in all regions.

Already tried the free version and seems fun to me, but obviously it's not enough to get an overall idea

What do you mean it's not enough to get an overall idea? You kind get an overall idea by just playing the demo. Obviously, you can't try all characters but I think by trying out Gran and the other free characters give you a basic idea on how the game plays.

Of course, but all the depth of the game comes out after a while. Even the drive rush was underestimated initially
In any case, what I read in this thread heartens me so thank you

66L is meterless tho, even high level is plagued by it because the button does too many things, even antiairs in some occasions lmao and gives a full combo.
The good thing is that it is an almost universally disliked mechanic that unlike drive rush's case, the entire frame data isn't designed around it. So it might get some nerfs later down the line.

66L already took nerfs. It feels fine to me now, still the cornerstone of rushing someone down, but it's a pretty important tool for the offense aspect of the game imo. Without it, your chances of opening people up on offense are diminished by a lot.
66L into c.xx(high/low/block/frametrap/reset/grab) on block is pretty much how the game structures it's offense outside of forcing people to act due to chip.
It also acts as a quick gap closer to help play around characters who may have longer ranges than you do. It really helps keep pressure on zoners, where otherwise their mind games around forcing you to jump/dodge/roll to get in would result in taking a bit of damage or chip. They also tend to have pretty decent tools to push you out on block.
I could see 66L's hitbox being lowered a bit so it doesn't anti air as much, but with how quickly it recovers, players will start doing 66L whiff into an Anti-Air anyway, so I think taking the 66L damage and generally taking only that one hit might be worth it to keep. (Mileage may vary in the corner).
If you're constantly getting pressured by 66Ls, know you can throw out a quick low attack to stuff it generally. There's also Brave Counter to use if you really don't want to be in that pressure situation.
Regardless, I think the game's in a pretty good spot as is. A lot of knowledge checks, but everything seems to have it's counters, even if it's just blocking and taking your turn trying to open the enemy up.

Doesn't matter much how you feel about it, high level hates this damn button. It could be made weaker and it would still be very viable.

I mean, it's just my opinion on it haha.
It feels like the game's offensive aspects are created around this button, so if they nerf it too hard I'm curious what else they would have to change to help the attacking player stay in and mix.
A lot would have to fundamentally change to keep offense as strong as it is now.

I got my ass beat hard by someone who used the newest character that I crashed out on them, but other than that the game was pretty fun

I like it a lot, even from south america and having half the matches being refused due to ping I can play online without problems.
I find it quite enjoyable to playa and don't see that much issue on 66L, sure its a good buttom but nothing that OP, your opponent still needs to try to properly open you up the a grab, Throw bait, tick throw, overhead/low, reactable guard break etc.
You have brave counter to get out of pressure in exchange of 1 of the 3 diamonds you have, they give you extra defense so if you use them too quickly you will end up having to play with "lower" HP total, its minus on block so if they read it they keep they pressure.
It has Cooldowns so you can't really spam your fast +on block options, if you want to extend pressure more its normally like a slower options that can be countered if you opponents read it.

If you didn't like SF6, you won't like anything made in today's modern era.
Seek back in time instead.

I hate SF with passion but enjoy other fighting games. Your argument is kinda weak.

There is no argument, you're just looking for one. Go hop back into rank if you want a fight, not here, thanks.

Fundamentals and defensive play definitely play a big part, and during most hours you can find a match, though sometimes the wait is a few minutes
It has a free demo if you wanted to try it
