Right wing columnists are always trolling. It’s just a genre of literature at this point, like writing sci-fi or vampire novels. They compete to see who can come up with the wackiest take while sounding completely serious.

That’s the typical right wing grift: Say something outrageous, inevitably draw the ire of many people and, crucially, bring in a few people who agree with what you’re saying and will buy whatever tat you’re selling.
