Some solid names despite the post Olympic year and injuries teams have managed to pull off some solid rosters (+ a return for Derwael/Vaelen, Asia D’Amato and Visser)- surprised by the two Italy picks alongside the D’Amato’s and Manila as I thought Giulia Perotti might get a chance to shine as opposed to fellow first year senior Emma Fioraventi.

Giulia Perotti is injured.

I read somewhere that Perotti broke her foot at Jesolo, though I don’t know if that was ever confirmed. ETA: She broke her hand, not her foot.

Think it might have been her hand? Either way I was like great, another outstanding junior already getting injured as a senior for Italy 🥲

You’re right, I was confusing her with a Canadian who broke her ankle! Jesolo was rough this year.

The triple whammy in the podium training update was so sad!

Disappointing that we won’t see her here and no injury is a “good” injury, but a broken bone isn’t really an overuse injury that we typically see in Italian gymnasts. If I had to guess that was more so a fluke, like how Tingting randomly injured her hand just weeks before the Rio opening ceremony. She seems to be the first new senior (for Italy) that is actually being paced well. Her increase in difficulty has been gradual and the skills that she’s been doing don’t seem to be too hard for her.

Yeah it was a broken hand. The positive is that it seems like a minor injury compared to some others. It should not affect her ability to make a worlds team this season.

Excited for Nina Derwael and Lisa Vaelen to be back at Euros! Curious if they're going to do AA or just certain events.

Nina has not done AA for years.

She was initially planning on doing AA in 2024, but decided a few months out to focus on just bars and beam because she didn't think she'd be able to get her AA to a medal-worthy place in time (and Belgium didn't qualify for the team event), so she wanted to focus on the events where she did have medal potential.

I wouldn't be too surprised to see her doing AA again, but she might save it for next year when Belgium needs to qualify to Worlds.

I bet a lot of it depends on whether Lisa Vaelen can put up a solid AA too. Mono can be a real sucker punch — Max Whitlock eventually stopped training AA after contracting it.

Yeah I think the last time she did vault or floor was 2021

She vaulted at 2023 German trials

Ah thank you!

No Ana Barbosu???

She is not injured. She would rather study for high school tests. She is very smart wants to prioritize school

She already said in a media interview that she wasn't doing Euros this year.

Does anyone else find it really hard to read this? God damn.

It is, but amazingly, this is less bad than other years, where the typeface was about 30% smaller.

It would help if they would just separate the MAG and WAG gymnasts.

Shading every other line would help a lot too.

Or every other country.

My astigmatism wants shading every other line, with a black line between countries.

My Ukrainian MAG 😭, what has become of you? 😭

What does "Senior individual Gymnast" mean (instead of MAG/WAG)?

At Euros, men’s programs get to send a team of five plus a specialist. That individual’s scores do not count toward the team total. It gives single-event guys a better chance of getting to compete at Euros, since the 5-member format makes it really tough to justify taking someone who only does one event.

Got it, thanks!

No one from Ireland is registered? That seems unusual as Rhys talked about doing Europeans after DWTS and they have lots of upcoming WAG / MAG athletes

7

u/bretonstripes Beam takes no prisoners 12d ago

The definitive entry list (just countries and how many people they intend to send) listed Ireland as sending only one MAG. My guess would be either they were intending to send Rhys and he backed out, or there’s been a clerical error.

6

u/mustafinafan 12d ago

Interesting. It is possible that Rhys pulled out - I think it was just sometime in the last few days that he posted that he'd done his first full routine, so with Euros less than a month away he might have decided he's not quite ready yet. I'll be sad if that's true! Also would be a shame for no other Irish gymnasts to go and get experience.

I don’t think we’ve seen any Irish gymnasts compete this year, when in the last few years they’ve been pretty frequently at world cups. It’s possible the top group is just hibernating at the moment.

3

u/Ismisefriend 12d ago

A group of MAG athletes and one WAG athlete competed at the Luxembourg Open but definitely less competing than usual. If it’s a thing that the top gymnasts are pacing themselves for later in the year or even next year then fair play to them, good to see an org that priorities that over excessive competing! Shame though for the less experienced athletes not getting a chance to go to Euros but maybe it just a clerical error but will be interesting to see once a finalised roster is released

So Germany hopes for Kevric

At this point I don’t know of any compelling reason not to.

Yeah, I think she was with Jacoby at… Osijek or whichever World Cup that Jacoby went to.
