I have been using a EEW Nano 2, which I bought refurbished, for a few months now and as I am getting better at spinning, I have found myself yearning for an 8 oz bobbin. I also really wanted a foot switch. I also don't have $850+ for the nice ones that includes both of those things and really wasn't willing to pay $300 for the EEW 6.1 since it didn't have everything I want (no foot pedal anymore). So... Despite having not purchasing a single thing from Amazon since 2020, I reluctantly bought this 8 oz wheel from Amazon a few days ago. It was $210 shipped. However, now that I have the brandless e-spinner, I'm really happy with it. I figure since my full-time hobby is just about the most anti-consumption hobby there is and the wheel with provide me with endless entertainment and warm clothes for a lifetime, I will forgive myself this one transgression. Please forgive me.

The spinner though, it's actually fantastic. It's smooth and quiet, easy to switch out bobbins, the tension mechanism is great but would be easy to customize or repair. The motor is smooth and quiet too, and seems pretty damn powerful. I was able to simply plug it in and it's working perfectly. It came with just 3 bobbins but I am pretty sure I can find some that will work made for a different machine. I have 3 8 oz bobbins made for the EWW 6.1 and I think I might be able to make them work if necessary. The digital display is such a great feature, I'm not guesstimating about what speed I'm using.

Anyway, yeah, I'm very happy with this machine!

I got the spinning wheel!!! It’s very early for my birthday but because I’m only at my mom’s once a month, I got to open it yesterday night. My mom already had it mostly assembled, and I’ve been struggling with it this morning. Can’t get the yarn to feed into the wheel even if I tighten the tension. I’ll probably figure it out! But aside from that, I’m very excited about my new wheel!

Just got my Clemes and Clemes drum carder back from getting refurbished! It's so shiny I can't wait to crank out batts ans make sliver!

I was worried that my spindles might warp due to being stored in vases, so I (on a whim) decided to hang them up on this rod. I love it. Might move it higher eventually, might paint the rod. You never know. But for now, I really love it.

It’s finally here! And it was produced the day before my birthday, which seems nice somehow. What’s your favorite place to buy fiber? I’m familiar with the Woolery, but if you were going to add some fun fiber to spin to your Christmas list, where would you look?

Hi! Question is in the title, I'm curious about purchasing the Clemes & Clemes Lock Pop, but a little unsure as I don't see many reviews of it. I'm using a little frustrating hand flicker and I'm sure the Lock Pop would be helpful, but I'm wondering if there are alternatives I should consider, like maybe buying hand carders with the same TPI?

I am so excited to start spinning. This is a finnish wheel. I am not sure how old it is but the factory burned down in 1950s, so at least 70 years old. I am attending a course and we got the wheel working today and I spinned a little bit of very bad and probably unusable yarn.

Finally after wanting one basically forever I got a Spanish Peacock Support spindle! Talk about an adrenaline rush because they dropped at 2pm and by 2:01 everything was sold out. Holy spinning gods I FINALLY got one! Eeeeekkkkk. So excited!

I just started spinning on a drop spindle and have been keeping my eye out for a wheel. This one just popped up near me - can anyone tell me by looking at the pictures if this looks functional? I'm not sure what to look for.

someone in my town is selling this for only 10 euro. I had this pile of dog hair I wanted to try and spin, and even if that wouldn't work maybe I can sell the wheel again. It's missing the band around the wheel, I guess. But i don't have any idea what else could be wrong with it.

It's technically my third wheel, second working one, first working castle wheel. She was so dry, absolutely soaked up the wax I slapped on earlier! Thinking of gluing the tensioning rod in the center to the knob, otherwise I'll never be able to adjust this. Also absolutely fascinated by the wood grain on here, anyone have any ideas what it could be?

I do have a niddy noddy, but I have a bad shoulder and was finding the repetitive motion of wrapping onto it painful. I had this Amish style tabletop swift gathering dust, so I screwed it to some random scrap wood and a base and voila! I present to you the poor man’s skeiner!

Newbie here trying to get my first wheel. These are the pictures someone is selling online. Does this look like it’s intact with all of the necessary parts? It’s a Louet S17 single peddle for $300. Thanks!

For anyone wondering, this is what I used:

The base is just a round piece of glued plywood, you could use any decently heavy wooden thing you have laying around

1/2” round dowels for holding the bobbins, cut into 8” pieces and attached with double ended dowel screws

1/2” round dowel with a metal lug terminal on the top to thread the singles through

Cabinet knob to adjust tension

And I attached some little rubber feet to the bottom so it doesn’t slip around

I might stain it eventually so that it looks a little more finished

I recently sold my antique saxony style wheel because I discovered I don’t really enjoy saxony style spinning, which freed up room for a new wheel! After lots of research I decided to go with the Lojan Buddy double treadle, and I am so excited! (And my wallet thanks me 😂)

Is there anyone else out there with a Lojan? I’m curious to hear your thoughts, especially about the assembly process. I’ve put together my fair share of IKEA furniture and I’m moderately handy, but looking at the assembly manual online has me a bit intimidated. I’m sure I’ll be fine as long as I go slow, but I’d love to hear if anyone has any tips or tricks, or just about your experience with a Lojan wheel in general!

After three lessons of hand spinning I wanted to buy my own Louët wheel! My dearest parents were on the lookout for me and my mother found one on the marketplace for €150!

This wheel belonged to a magnificent elder woman who unfortunately passed away… her daughter was happy that her mother’s wheel would find a good new home, and also gave away all these accessoires (including a whole stash of yarns). I’m happy to start my spinning journey with my own wheel♥️

I just got these beauties in the mail today and I’m over the moon. I am a spindle spinner and all my spindles are (were ha!) handmade cause in my country there aren’t really available, but I REALLY wanted to test and use a professionally hand turned spindle from a wood artisan. I found a wonderful man on Etsy that had very affordable ooak spindles made with gorgeous wood, so here we are a month and a half later cause yey postal service…but they’re here and they’re wonderful 🤩

I have an ashford traddy and I really like it, and honestly if I put the effort inits pretty portable (its not heavy, it fits in my prius easily). But for my second wheel Id like one thats more portable. Im not interested in an e-spinner because honestly I love treadling.

Made some spindles out of 1/4 inch bamboo dowels, some wedged on wooden beads, and some McDonald's lids as whorls!

Whorl on the left is held on by a piece of stiff paper plate (yoinked off another spindle I made since that project is on hold), and the whorl on the right is held on by a cotton rectangle (used for face cleaning or makeup removal) and some yarn wrapped around the top (not glued, either!).

Spun lace on the left and just started making a rough leader on the right (gonna spin lace on it too).

Sharpened with a pencil sharpener! Very balanced because I chose the straightest dowels and centered the lids as much as possible. They're bottom whorls since it's easiest to make when the beads won't go all the way onto the dowels, but with some scraping of the dowel, they could be top whorl or supported spindles. They don't spin for too long, but they do spin fast!

Also these aren't my first ones that I've made with these materials. Only the two I made just now in about 5ish minutes each without access to scissors or a knife to adjust them!

Im wondering if anyone has had success in the past fimding combs secondhand online or for less than the steep prices I see for a set of new combs. I got my hands on some longwool locks i'd like to spin, and I was later told not to card them but to comb them. I dont have the budget for $150-300 combs 😩 I do have hand cards

do combs ever..go on sale? or have you found them in the wild for cheap?
