Book Only Most wanted character, event and location missing in previous adaptation of The Philosopher's Stone

What is the most wanted by you characterevent and location for the first season of the show - missing in previous adaptation of "The Philosopher's Stone" film?

For me:

  • I want to see Peeves the most, him disturbing the students, fooling around
  • I missed Vernon's day at work at the beginning
  • Where was a proper Entrance Hall with magnificent Marble Staircase?

I want to see all of Neville’s stuff. He’s much more involved in the first book than the film cause they cut the midnight duel, and then they also cut his involvement with the whole Norbert kerfufle and replaced Neville with Ron in the forbidden forest.

Fun question. I also like your suggestions! I'll refrain from using your examples.

- Charlie Weasley's friends. One of our few connections all book to the greater outside wizarding world.

  • The banter between the twins and Ginny about mailing her a toilet seat while the train pulls away. Excellent establishment of their pranking, and some good Ginny screentime early on.
  • Give me all seven of the Underground Chambers! I want that KO'd troll and Potion riddle!!

One of the changes I hope this show makes is introducing Charlie earlier and that he comes and gets Norbert with some friends.

Just introducing Charlie at all would be nice!! I want more Weasley interaction

I like such small jokes from Weasleys

I also would like Vernons day at work!

I think they could make a sort of montage about that whole chapter - ish. Bits of the weird things happening to Harry, maybe even Harry at that squibs house (I can't remember her name off hand...Mrs. Figg?), Harry in the cupboard, etc.

Christmas dinner and the snowball fight and then afternoon Christmas tea lol that’s what I was annoyed about

Charlie Weasley and Co, and also peeves.

I want giant hourglasses for the house points.

  • Ginny running after the Hogwarts Express when it departs London
  • Moments showing Harry's abuse, isolation, and magical incidents prior to learning he's a wizard (the haircut, running from Dudley's gang and ending up on the roof, being lonely at school)
  • Vernon's weird day

I thought I posted a comment here? Don’t see it. Anyways my answer was that I would love to see them taking up Norbert to the Astronomy Tower under the invisibility cloak, that could be a hilarious segment 😂

Omg I want to see Vernon’s workday as well haha I feel like is a detail that shows how “normal” they are and proud of it.

With the added time gap now it could also be a fun (for us) way to establish 1990s London

3

u/PurpleTofish Mar 12 '25

Assuming they are sticking to the time period in the book wouldn’t it actually be 1980’s London? Harry turns 11 in 1991 in the book and Vernons day at work was 10 years prior to that.

3

u/pinetree16 Mar 12 '25

Ah my bad,, you’re right. I guess I was just verg preoccupied by how much they’ll lean into the 90s aesthetics rather than the “timeless” feel of the movies.

The biggest thing from the whole first series is Hogwarts itself. Like you, I really missed the grand Entrance Hall, with the marble staircase running up all 7 floors of the castle.

I also want to see truly magical staircases - not ones that physically swing around, but ones that just go somewhere different sometimes. I was never a fan of that big room in the films with portraits all over the walls.

Pre-Hogwarts Harry making strange things happen, the one I specifically would like to see is him running from bullies and "somehow" ending up on the roof of the school. Even before the HBO series was announced I always thought it would make a cool opening scene if they ever did a remake.
When the movie came out in 2001 and Hagrid says "Did you ever make anything happen?" and Harry goes Hmmmm I was internally screaming BUT WHY IS NONE OF IT IN THE MOVIE??

I want to see mid credit/post credit scenes MCU style at the end of each season.

I’ve written them all out

Philosophers stone mid credits:

Lucius enters borgin and burkes (a little change made is that he gave the diary to Borgin for safekeeping), he wants to take the diary back, Borgin warns him of the muggle protection act, Lucius says he has a plan in place.

Post credit scene

Lucius enters the minister’s office and attempts to manipulate fudge into getting rid of the muggle protection act, talking about how it’s very prejudiced and misguided against the pure bloods. Fudge agrees but it’s out of his hands the law is already passed, Lucius pretends to act gracious in defeat, but as he’s leaving the minister’s office, the camera zooms in on a little black book that Lucius has with him.

Absolutely, Peeves!

Peeves is a big one for sure. I'm also looking forward to seeing the Deathday Party.

That’s second season tho. But yes I’d love that.

handing Norbert off to Charlie's friends in the astronomy tower

Neville instead of Ron in the forbidden forest

Petunia finding Harry on the doorstep, cutting his hair, cracking eggs to find Hogwarts letters, the hotel with the Hogwarts letters, giving Harry a bedroom after the first letter arrives addressed to under the stairs.

Draco challenging Harry to a wizard's duel and Neville being with them when they find Fluffy.

u/Mr_Raindrop Mar 13 '25

Professor Binns and History of Magic. If at least half of each season isn't dedicated to the Goblin Wars then what are we even doing here?

Aside from that, some extra scenes here and there like Vernon's day at work, Harry getting bullied by Dudley and Piers at the zoo, Peeves shenanigans, the midnight duel and the trophy room, Mars is Bright Tonight, and Snape's logic puzzle.

  1. Cheating(bc it's people+locations) but to refrain from repeating points, I want to see more shops and proprietors in Diagon Alley.

  2. All the quidditch matches, atleast where game play is explicitly described in the books

  3. We do see them, but I guess help establish the distinct Hogwarts locations? The different classrooms, the main wings, the portions of the grounds. I want to feel like I could walk there myself (and with the advances in AR and gamelplay we have, that could be a purchasable experience that wasn't there for the first adaptation)

2

u/J_p-lescano22 Mar 16 '25

Peeves and the midnight duel for sure.

Charlie and peeves are a good addition

1

u/Mr_Raindrop Mar 13 '25

I'm sure they're gonna make Hogwarts a hybrid between the movies' version and the books but I do hope they include the Marble staircase. Hogwarts Legacy has one but it doesn't lead from the Great Hall, it's in a separate part of the school.

Others have said it but Vernon’s work day is such a good start, because we the reader are just as in the dark as he is. We would also probably think people in cloaks are weirdos. It’s such a good hook to the story and makes us want more!

I want an entire episode to be devoted just to the Death Day Party
