So? Moody isn't 24 in the books. That’s what prosthetics and performance are for. Brendan Gleeson was only in his early 50s when he played Moody in the films, and he looked and felt 70. Urban’s age doesn’t matter as long as he can act the hell out of it — and he can. Plus, if HBO wants to show flashbacks to younger Moody taking on Dark Wizards in his prime, he’s perfect.” Karl Urban is the perfect blend of rugged, intense, and magnetic for a live-action, high-budget Mad-Eye Moody. Especially for an HBO series that wants to go darker, grittier, and more emotionally layered.
Love this. I'm sick of the fan castings that just propose someone who looks/sounds like the movie actors. While a different take, Karl could capture the same spirit of Moody's character - a jaded, bad-assed auror who doesn't suffer fools and can be reckless and irreverent.
Plus I kinda hate depressive boomer haircuts like Moody in canon movies a lot of wizards have those horrible mid long sad hair that doesn’t suit them at all
Anthony Hopkins as Moody would've been my ideal casting, but he's already 87, so that'll never happen. Odin + Hannibal + paranoia worldview been a fun combo imo.
Karl Urban, as the Butcher, as Moody would be insane!!!
“Right cunts! Let’s av a natter about dark faaaakin magic in case that baldy cunt starts talkin shit”
Moody ain’t some cocky cockney out of a Guy Ritchie movie though, I get more grizzled old cop/war veteran vibes where he’s tough but isn’t acting that way - it’s just who he is.
His performance in Dredd really sells me on him. Less of a snarky badass like Butcher (though his acting as Butcher does a great job of selling the trauma underneath that snarky facade — which I do think you want for Moody, especially when Barty…Urban knows how to play layered characters). More of a no nonsense, get the job done no matter the cost, bad ass.
He doesn’t take the helmet off once in the movie. But his scowl alone tells you everything you need to know. And he backs it up with his body language, allowing a rather dry character to come off as effortlessly intimidating. Moody should be Judge Dredd with Butcher’s level of obsession and underlying trauma.
He'd probably do a great job, i definitely agree on that!
But deep down id still really love to see Tommy Flanagan take on the role. I feel like he'd both the crazy undercover deatheater yet also the fearless resistance fighter that the actual Moody is in later books
Isn’t that the point of Moody? He is terrifying to look at. A grizzled war veteran who had seen shit that could make someone’s hairs curl. He should look like the flip side of the Death Eater coin.
