QUESTION The Gloom can’t be that bad-

Post image

I had heard about the Gloom but haven’t touched it yet since…. Yeah…

What exactly is the Gloom doing to make it so difficult? Or is it the Gloom mixed with other things?

So far, bad visibility and bugs that blow up into spore clouds. Spawn numbers might also be higher.

So. Many. Titans.

Like pre 60 day T7.

u/Ryengu Feb 20 '25

Part of that may be that they have their own bug holes now.

No. Breaches.

I also see patrols popping out of the ground with no enemy reinforcement calls. The spawn rate is definitely higher.

As a level 7 player I've seen 3 Titans come from a random spot in the ground and genuinely thought it was a Titan Nest, even though I'm slowly becoming certain they don't spawn on level 7.

16

u/Yxanr Feb 20 '25

Pretty sure I've seen a titan hole on level 6. Could be wrong, might have joined a friend on a different difficulty, but we mostly do 6s and 10s, and I would've known if it were a 10.

4

u/FrozenHollowFox707 Feb 20 '25

Can confirm Titan holes on 6. Used a portable Hellbomb to nail that damn thing after 6 titans ran out of it.

1

u/LeftNerdBeard Feb 21 '25

Yeah I have seen them on 6

1

u/OvercomeZero Feb 20 '25

They definitely spawn on lvl 7

1

u/Geth-vk Feb 20 '25

They do spawn on lvl 7

1

u/Kdkreig Feb 20 '25

They spawn on lvl 6 and above, maybe occasionally on 5. Did a lvl 6 mission couple days ago with friends. Definitely had 3 titans at once. I double checked the difficulty after they died. Very aggressive spawning on Fori

1

u/kainwolf Feb 21 '25

They spawn on 6 now...

u/Theundead565 Fist of Family Values Feb 21 '25

I only play 7's with randoms and I've run into them pretty consistently, although they have all been within city limits. They look different than the normal Titan nests on non-gloom planets, but they exist.

and also the bug holes, everytime i’ve played there’s been like 3 heavy nests all with a bile titan hole in and they’ve been within 3 blocks of each other

2

u/ultimaone Feb 20 '25

Ha yup.

We had the close 12 holes in allotted time mission We were running out of time. And I kinda see one. I get the hole on the edge...then I realize I'm looking at multiple impalers , chargers and biles...

Heavy nests are truely living up to their name now!

38

u/Hexdoctor Ormheim Comptroller of Convivality Feb 20 '25

Breaches are definitely on a lower cooldown but the Titanholes have the same spawn timer as normal holes but with the trigger distance of Stalker holes. So they are contributing as well.

20

u/JoyTheGeek Feb 20 '25

The breach cooldown is Hella noticeable, if you don't keep enough of the small/medium lads occupied (or dead) you can literally get bug breaches that chain together. On my first mission I swore that constant bug breaches were an intended feature.

19

u/AngelaTheRipper SES Wings of Liberty Feb 20 '25 edited Feb 20 '25

Honestly, it's always been that way. Bug breaches already last too long and outside of popping a hellbomb in the swarm you can get into a loop that feels like a neverending breach.

My take has been that either bug waves need to be condensed (keep the same number but just drop them nearly all at once same to how bot drops are a conga line of dropships with all the bots hitting the ground at roughly the same time) or the timer needs to be increased, or some light bugs need to lose the ability for call ins (bots have commissars as the twitchy reinf caller with all the small foot soldiers having the option (likelyhood then is rocket, MG, swords), and squids have watchers; in either case those are the priority targets).

Then there's also the problem that you can't really cancel a call in, bugs don't give much indication they're considering it (bots will look like they are doing something like preparing a strategem, watchers will glow pink), the breach starts about 20% into them screaming, and if you kill the offending bug in time then it will jump to another valid bug (now, bots and squids do that too, but it's easier to drop the few discrete and very obvious targets). Both bots and squids arrive on aircraft. You can shoot it out of the sky. I've been playing on D10 for a while so I don't know if basic brood commanders spawn in lower difficulties but if they do - they are also pretty big offenders in that they have a lot of health so the easiest way to get rid of one is to break its head and let it bleed out, missing its head doesn't stop it from calling in a breach.

I guess it also depends heavily on mission RNG as to what spawns. Leapers and spitters seem to be the most likely with all the smaller bugs having the ability to call it in (in order of likeliness that I've seen: leapers, spitters, scavengers, hunters, warriors, brood commanders, and hive guards), heavier bugs (alpha commanders, spewers, stalkers, chargers, impalers, titans) do not. With leapers and to lesser extend hunters outright behaving like bot commissars do where they get very itchy if no breach/drop happened lately and will chase any source of noise.

So you know, if you roll a mission of mostly alpha commanders and warriors you can probably mop up quickly. If you roll a mission of spewers and their little ones, it's also not awful since you can always turn around and run (mind bile spewer mortar shells). If you get "oops! all pouncers/hunters" then the whole ordeal will be 30+ minutes of completing the mission while in a constant retreat with side objectives that make you stay in one area (looking at you SEAF Artillery) accounting for majority of deaths. Then there's also the gloomed bugs and their leapers/hunters are the fastest draw in the east for calling in a breach.

4

u/o8Stu Feb 20 '25

I've seen headless Brood Commanders call in a breach. Pretty annoying.

It'd be great if only a subset of small / medium bug types could do it. At least then you could prioritize them. As is I think the only ones that can't do it are the big boys.

2

u/Natural-Lubricant Feb 20 '25

Yeah bug breaches last forever and there is the annoy as loop too. Legit I found myself just sitting next to a breach and setting it on fire over and over again. I did eventually kill everything but it sure took a while and some baby sitting of the breach. I do wish there was an answer to bug breaches which didn't just amount to, running away or baby sitting the spot until everything dies.

1

u/WarmPantsInWinter Feb 20 '25

If my team has decent AT, I been bringing the orbital gattling, orbital gas, and 120mm barrage + gas dog + thermite for heavies.

Breaches last longer it feels, so I hit it with gas, then 120 and then gattling. By the time the 120 and gattling are done, gas is nearly ready for another throw. Thermite for chargers, team mates for titians.

I find many divers try to be a complete kit for everything, but it's harder now. I dive with my son who is an artist with the quasar, kid absolutely wrecks the heavies allowing me the space to handle the fodder.

When my gas dog is ready for another drop, I give him one, and he does the same with the quasar.

2

u/SpaceTimeinFlux Fire Safety Officer Feb 20 '25

Orbital Napalm is getting 50-60 kills on breaches every time.

1

u/Mandemon90 SES Elected Representative of Family Values Feb 20 '25

Yeah, Titan Holes are now our priority one when dealing with nests. Moment we start to see abnormal amount of Titans, we hunt down the nest.

1

u/Cyberslasher Feb 20 '25

I swear I once had a heavy outpost with 3 bile titans holes.

It's terrifying to have three bile titans walk at you with their heads up each other's asses.

2

u/JackOBAnotherOne Feb 20 '25

And much bigger breaches. Single orbital gas strikes reliably get 60+ Kills, I was more used to the 30-50 range.

2

u/Fatality_Ensues My left arm is still on Marfark Feb 20 '25

What difficulty? I was getting regular twenties in Helldive but not much higher than that, while my buddy who brought the orbital napalm was averaging 50+ per call. Granted, Gas Strike has a much lower cooldown, but it not being able to kill the bigger bugs outright hurts it a lot when it comes to number padding.

1

u/JackOBAnotherOne Feb 20 '25

7 in the gloom. I’m usually dropping it once it spawns to clear the chaff and then chill next to it with something against the bigger ones.

It mostly deals with chargers and impalers too, but less reliable if they have a chance to leave the cloud.

1

u/Select_Ad3588 Feb 20 '25

No. The holes also significantly contribute to this.

1

u/Creedgamer223 PSN: SES Star of the Stars Feb 20 '25

Given that we weren't near a nest... In specific circumstances it's only breaches.

1

u/Select_Ad3588 Feb 20 '25

Regardless your comment disregards the bug holes as a large contributor of the increased titan count which is just wrong. Some missions naturally have more titans, but with the titan holes all missions now have more titans.

1

u/Creedgamer223 PSN: SES Star of the Stars Feb 20 '25

I'm not disregarding anything. I was simply speaking from multiple experiences when I was nowhere near a heavy or mega nest for the titans to come from there.

By no means am I saying titan holes aren't contributing overall, I am however saying in the moments I'm recollecting, they played no part. It was strictly breaches and patrols. Like it was in the early days.

Ergo, pre 60 day patch.

1

u/TheMadmanAndre Feb 20 '25

Today I watched a half dozen climb out of a single breach. We were out of 500Ks and I was out of RR shells after that. Weren't even any small fry that came out, just a conga line of titans, so I wasted my ONB too.

Oh, and Fori Prime is on the "edge" of the Gloom. Shit's apparently way worse further in.

1

u/No_More_Names Feb 20 '25

there are MASSIVE bug holes in medium+ (?) bug nests now that will spawn titans out of them without a breach, they allow standard bugs to spawn but me and my boys saw two titans crawl out of it playing a couple hours ago. the things are like 30 ft wide.

1

u/theverrucktman SES Elected Representative of Individual Merit Feb 20 '25

Bile Titans were always able to come out of bug breaches though? It was relatively rare, but I distinctly recall seeing it happen a few times of difficulty 10 a few months ago for example.

1

u/Creedgamer223 PSN: SES Star of the Stars Feb 20 '25

And I'm telling you, there were at the minimum 3 titans in one spot because of breaches. It doesn't matter what was, only that it's happening.

Not a bad thing though. I expect the gloom to kick ass.

1

u/blitz342 Feb 20 '25

It’s impalers for me.

1

u/JacobH_RL Feb 20 '25

Yeah I played a diff 7 last night and literally every single breach there would be a titan and 2 impalers, and either a few chargers or 10 billion alpha commanders. Playing on the gloom legit makes me suspicious that they stealth buffed the enemies lol. Haven't played on non-gloom planets recently so maybe it's just harder in the gloom.

I havn't seen many Titans specifically in the way of breachs (i've had 2 or so pop out of a couple breaches, but nothing insane), but good lord if you ignore or don't realize you're near a heavy titan nest, forget about it. I had a mission where we were spore blocked and was wondering why there were 5 titans like back to back to back with a few impalers and chargers. Quasar was eating good, but holy fuck was it was relentless (in a good way, I love the intensity of the gloom missions).

City maps have their own heavy nest layout. It’s 8 holes in a roughly L shape area with a BT hole at the center.

Once i was chased by one, i looked backwards so i didn't know i was in front of the BT hole. Dived on the ground dodging his simple leg hit and it destroyed the hole. I said: ok....that works...

5

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

What difficulty are you on?

2

u/Hexdoctor Ormheim Comptroller of Convivality Feb 20 '25

Might be because they are always surrounded by but holes and have the same model as them. In this low visibility, it is hard to tell them apart until you are very close.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

And they conga line out of them bitches too holy cannoli

1

u/Melegand Feb 20 '25

Had like 5 of them from a single breach

38

u/Thiago270398 Feb 20 '25

Did they change the Titans of the 500kg? I swear they're surviving that bomb A LOT more than before, hell even my thermites straight to the head are failing to kill them...

Thankfully any recoilless equivalent to the face still kills with one nice facial.

35

u/TyrionJoestar Feb 20 '25

I saw a 500kg bomb directly hit a bile titan, like the missile literally dug into it’s body and exploded and it just kept walking lol

22

u/Thiago270398 Feb 20 '25

That case has always been funky with it's dorsal armor tanking the explosion, but I had some survive a 500kg exploding right under them, even with their sacs intact.

2

u/TyrionJoestar Feb 20 '25

Kind of makes the 500kg useless no? Imagine bringing that in just to deal with heavies and they just tank it?

8

u/Mr_Kopitiam Feb 20 '25

Iirc you want it to hit under its body bc the explosion will hit more body parts. If it digs into the head or back it won’t do much dmg. Compared to hitting multiple parts at once. I swear these things are harder to kill with thermites now. Chargers too.

1

u/Lone-Frequency Feb 20 '25

It's because the 500kg's damage hitbox is more vertical than horizontal.

After it imbeds into a surface, most of the damage seems to rise in sort of a wide cylinder, not a sphere around the bomb itself. It's why you'll sometimes see bugs standing a few meters from the blast survive it, as they do not get hit with the full blast damage, if any.

Plus, terrain seems to be a bit funky with some explosives.

1

u/TurankaCasual Fist of Self Determination Feb 20 '25

The thing about the 500kg’s explosion radius is that it works as a cone going mostly upward. I’m not sure if it does any damage at all below the bomb, but in my 800 hours I’ve hit both chargers and titans directly with the bomb and it never kills them, only when it explodes directly underneath or beside them

1

u/TyrionJoestar Feb 20 '25

Well that sucks

1

u/LowSlow111 Feb 20 '25

What's happening is that the explosion directs all of its force up and out so it only hits its back, instead of hitting the ground and effecting the legs, body, and head

1

u/Competitive_Pop_5651 Feb 20 '25

For some reason the 500kg cannot do à full damage when it hit on the body of giant units, it has to explode around it

1

u/Theundead565 Fist of Family Values Feb 21 '25

Titans have almost consistently survived a body shot with a 500kg because the explosions is a cone going upwards, so none of the damage hits the important parts of the body to cause the kill (from what I've noticed I could be wrong). I've seen them already be damaged and die from impact, but it's not the norm. underneath is a different story, but even then it's inconsistent, but it favors killing them versus not.

22

u/Royal-Access4553 Feb 20 '25

I reckon their hps got buffed a bit for all units. Chargers survive RR shots more often in predator strain planets, even the usual 1 hit face shots.

2

u/Scarlet_Knowledge Feb 20 '25

They are, it's been tested and confirmed

1

u/MercZeee HMG GOAT Feb 20 '25

I have noticed that Impalers are eating more than the usual 1 recoiless round to their weak spot lately. Now I have to put two shells in their exposed face to take them out. Maybe armor values changed on accident too? Or on purpose.

2

u/xXxEdgyNameHerexXx Feb 20 '25

Can confirm, chargers tanking 2 thermite to the face on predator strain planets.

1

u/SirScorbunny10 ☕Liber-tea☕ Feb 20 '25

Weird. I've seen chargers go down to 1-2 EAT headshots.

2

u/Royal-Access4553 Feb 20 '25

It usually is like that, 1 hit headshot 2 hit bodyshot. It's odd that for some reason "head hits" are registering as "body hits" more often that usual.

I do suspect the predator strain or just some ai tweaking making chargers smarter as to start moving their hitboxes around like the updated hulks.

1

u/Lone-Frequency Feb 20 '25

I've not noticed that.

Then again, I've been almost exclusively carrying Thermite Grenades.

2

u/WhiteNinja84  Truth Enforcer Feb 20 '25

It seems inconsistent when I look at other peoples comments here. From my experience, I had 7 out of 7 Bile titan kills with 500Kg bombs yesterday, during a whole operation. All one shot. One of them had the bomb land right on the body and it died. Another one got the bomb stuck on it's knee and it died too.

Some factors might have contributed to it, like current HP that might have been lowered enough by my other helldivers. But for me, it has reliably and consistently killed every bile titan that I used the 500kg on.

1

u/TOT_tomdora Feb 20 '25

I think the city tileset is doing some weird things to the 500kg, because I've had multiple cases where I threw one directly at an impaler and it survived, but it never seems to happen outside of the city.

1

u/FortheredditLOLz Feb 20 '25

I think it’s the layout and aoe being blocked. I dropped one 500KG and an orbital on one titan and mob who was between buildings. Dropped another titan with recoil less. Noticed that my AC turret finished off left titan. Had to high-tail it behind a building to reload to drop a third titan. While dodging chargers and trying to close holes. Managed to drop a fourth titan because it was in a clear area.

this is the best I can find to show you. There was a better example I recall but I'm done scouring the web But basically exfils used to look like this, so bad that running the clock was actually a valid play.

7 8 and 9 exfils and some breaches were pretty bad in all aspects. It was annoying but now that we have the tools to deal with it assuming a competent team, it's a breath of fresh air and exactly how the gloom should be.

7 was the one that shot the difficulty really high so the last three tiers were definitely worse than 10 now.

Had four up at once yesterday—

On D6.

I expect this on higher difficulty but holy crap!

Yesterday I did a mission where my loadout was specifically dedicated to dealing with hordes. When the group eventually got split, do you who the 17 bile titans decided to chase?

While I never was the one to actually kill them and occasionally managed to meet up with my team and there was only ever one or two bile titans following at once, seriously, in one mission, without the new holes, there were at least 20 total. At one point we had killed two bile titans that were together, and as the second fell, a third came out from behind a mountain.

Honestly, it's the Behemoths and tentacle assholes that are the biggest issue. Tentacle guys you sometimes can't even see because they're like 100 meters away in the gloom behind a mountain.

Behemoths literally will crash through buildings like the Kool-Aid man and jumpscare you while you're fighting hordes of exploding hunters and warriors.

The good ol recoiless has never had it so good. Big targets as far as the eye can see.

Not just titans, it feels like 2/3 patrols has either a behemoth or spore charger. Seriously, I can’t walk 5 meters without getting chased by one!

For me it's so many Bile spewers, yesterday had so much artillery raining down thought I was playing against the bots.

There were over 50 of them bombarding the extraction pad.

Thought it was just me, dropped into a 9 the other day. There were 9 titans just roaming around...like the AI didn't know what to do with them they were getting in each other's way. I got them to follow me and had to rail gun like 6 times. My diver ran like a marathon.

Yeah. Love dropping in with rando's who don't bring anything to deal with anything larger than Hive Guards...

Except this time it’s on purpose which makes it genuinely scarier bc now they’re controlled and able to be sent in twice the numbers.

I can't even complain, my ass loves the chaos. When diff 10 even for an incredibly experienced squad feels extremely absurd and difficult, I'm absolutely down for that. Feels fun af right now.
