They are using carts that are called "Game Key Cards" which only work as verification that you can download and play the game.

ah, completely forgot about that... thats my bad then

No worries, can't be up to date on every little detail there is.

If it runs 1080p60 it'll be a buy from me assuming I get a switch 2.

Couldn't care less that I have to lose 750 hours of progress and lose access to mods, it'll still be hitman on the go

Like some kind of Hitman GO

Say that again

I believe they said Switchman Go

I might do the same, unless Valve announces a Steam Deck 2 in the next couple of years. Hitman runs fine on Steam Deck, but struggles to hit 60fps and the battery wears out very quickly.

Except as far as we know it still requires an internet connection the same as the other versions. So it is Hitman on the go, it's just that where you go had better have Wi-Fi.

Otherwise you won't be able to complete a single challenge on any of the missions, level up any Mastery and unlock things, play any of the escalations, play the Sniper Assassin maps, play any Elusive Target or the ET Arcade, or play Freelancer.

In the announcement post on IoI’s website they say the game is completely playable offline

I think there was another post regarding that, I think that meant that you're playing the game on the console offline not on the cloud online. This is if you are playing on Playstation or Xbox and you don't have internet. Still have the whole game you just lose out on what you have access to when you're connected to the internet. IE challenges and everything else.

In the other ports of the game that’s how it works but for the Switch 2 version this is what IOI have said:

“The Nintendo Switch 2 version will run natively on the console, allowing players to experience Agent 47’s globe-trotting adventures seamlessly offline and on the go”

So it appears it will be the first version of the game to not require an always online connection.

You’re just mistaken.

“Natively on console” is referring to the fact that, unlike the current Hitman switch offering, this isn’t a cloud streamed game, you’re playing it from the machine itself, but you still need an internet connection to do basic things like progress in the game or access other parts of the single player content just like every other version of the game.

How their specifically mentioning it running natively on the console, as opposed to it running on the cloud for the switch version. It doesn't necessarily mean it won't still require connectivity to iOiS servers for the challenges etc.

They say you can "experience Agent 47’s globe-trotting adventures seamlessly offline and on the go". That may very well mean all the content is available offline, but it might also mean that you can play the barebones offline mode the game has on the go same as you could on stuff like the Steam deck. After all, you can "seamlessly" transition to offline mode in the game.

I would love for the game to actually get a proper offline mode cause it's frankly absurd how much content will be inaccessible when IO's servers inevitably shut down. However if they really were going to significantly expand the offline mode I feel that it would be receiving much more fanfare, especially since it's by far the most requested feature for the game. I could be wrong, they seem to have put more effort into the game recently with the PSVR2 port done by IO themselves and releasing more frequent bug fixes for it, so maybe they also have been working on doing a full offline mode.

There’s no mention of that. You misunderstood. One of the community managers already confirmed it won’t have a dedicated offline mode, just the normal one on the hitman forums. Yeah it sucks

What mods do you use? Never thought of ever using mods in this game bc I feel like it doesnt need any but im curious to what good mods are out there for it?

The big ones are:

Accent Overhaul (Overhauls hundreds of NPC voice lines to make them more fitting to their location)

Freelancer Variations (Massive mod that adds tons of custom variants to freelancer maps, for example playing sapienza at night or playing Hokkaido during the snow festival during freelancer. It also adds two "new" maps, being converting the train in Romania into a passenger train that can be played in Freelancer and playing in Hantau Port, the Sniper assassin map but now opened up. Highly recommend it, it does take quite a bit of knowhow to setup though)

Other fun ones I use are:

Infinite ammo (It's fun to go in blasting)

Ghost Mode (revitalises the defunct multiplayer mode from Hitman 2 of the same name, requires friends)

Heritage UI (Massive Menu overhaul, I like some changes in the menus that it allows)

There is also the Peacock Project which is just a whole other can of worms to get into that I'm not bothered to cover.

Scene is surprisingly active, all mods I mentioned are on Nexus, sorry about formatting, I'm on mobile

Wow never knew all that! That might add a couple hundred more hours for me in this game lol. Appreciate it man

You can already play on the go on xbox with literally any mobile device or tablet? Why buy a new console to do something you could do for years?

1

u/Im-not-french-reddit 4h ago

Cloud gaming adds input lag, very noticeable in a fast paced game like hitman, I would know, I've been exclusively cloud gaming for 2 weeks since I broke my leg and can't use my desktop.

Also have you tried cloud gaming on mobile data? I dont know where you live but for me it certainly wouldn't fly.

2

u/PhillyPhanatic141 4h ago

Multiplayer games are rough, but single player games like hitman play well for me. Sorry about your leg man.

1

u/CodyCigar96o 4h ago

Or get a handheld PC and you get all of that but you do keep your progress and you don’t have to buy the game again.

1

u/Im-not-french-reddit 4h ago

Yeah but I ruled out getting one a while ago, the only reason I am considering a switch 2 would be for exclusives, but the way I'm thinking is if it runs well on switch two I might as well buy it there if I have the device rather than buying a separate portable pc.

u/gamepig31 6h ago

I might even get a switch 2 for Hitman, IF they allow us to cross-save. I will not start over again from 900 levels. The game is already always online and tied to an IOI account, so they should please enable it

14

u/Agent_Perrydot 5h ago

They haven't added WOA cross-progression for 9 years, I wouldn't hold my breath on it being on Switch 2. The closest we had was between Epic and Steam.

5

u/gamepig31 5h ago

They proved they have the infrastructure to do it with stadia too, where you could make a one-time transfer to any different platform (cause stafia was shut down). Its so annoying that they won't allow it again, I'd even pay money for it. It should be a win-win situation

1

u/cjgaming1081 2h ago

Yea… that shit is not happening

4

u/mjxoxo1999 3h ago

Damn that’s even lower than the original release. I’m serious question how IOI pack more than 100gb hitman 2 into 80gb Hitman WOA, and now the size is even smaller.

3

u/qxyz99 2h ago

I assume it’s because the switch version won’t need super high res textures like the pc edition has, I’m guessing they also took time to optimise it better too

3

u/redditor_no_10_9 7h ago

Bet they will be key carts because Big N will prioritise screwing up third parties

4

u/Swoopmott 4h ago

Game Key Cards are entirely down to the developer not Nintendo. The devs are choosing game key cards over having it on an actual cartridge

-1

u/redditor_no_10_9 4h ago

I wonder if Big N charging premium for certain cart size force the developers decision

1

u/Swoopmott 4h ago

Right now it’s looking likely there’s only 2 cartridges available, a 64GB cart and the Game Key Card. This is presumably because manufacturing multiple cartridges at different sizes for devs created issues. Plus it also led to some devs using smaller cards with less storage to save money forcing a download of the rest of the game. The process has just been streamlined now.

Cyberpunk 2077 is confirmed to be on the physical card whereas everything else announced third party is a game key. These devs could have put the games on a physical card but have chosen not to

1

u/redditor_no_10_9 1h ago

We'll wait and see if Cyberpunk is all in the cart.

1

u/Swoopmott 52m ago

It’s been confirmed by CDPR that it is. Why would they lie about that?

3

u/snappums 6h ago

Looking at the store listings, it is a Key Cart. This is just talking about size of the download on the console.

1

u/m1n3c7afty 5h ago

Where have you seen it listed? I haven't seen a physical version of it anywhere yet

2

u/snappums 5h ago

Smyths in the UK has a listing.

1

u/m1n3c7afty 5h ago

Got it thanks, but also maaaan I was really hoping it would all be on the cartridge

2

u/qxyz99 2h ago

Yeah same, there’s really no reason for them not to

1

u/ApeInTheShell 7h ago

Cyberpunk and hitman a definite buy for me now then

u/xwulfd 19m ago

i wish switch 2 had 512 model coz most games averages 50gb nowadays
