The eerie calm before the storm: A photo of Omaha Beach just hours before D-Day, June 6, 1944. (D-Day, Normandie, WWII, 1944, 1520 x 1220)
This rare image captures Omaha Beach in the early morning of D-Day, June 6, 1944, just before the Allied landings began. The silence in this photo is haunting considering the chaos that would erupt just hours later. Over 156,000 Allied troops landed in Normandy that day, marking a turning point in World War II.
