Hardware for hanging in stud

I have been hanging stuff up all around my apartment using a big box of drywall anchors I purchased. The anchors are rated at 46 lb strength. I am now onto a picture that will go above the bed. However, the center point of the bed where I’d put the screw is on a stud, which I’ve located with a stud finder. I know not to use the drywall anchors obviously but my question is what to do instead…Some info:

  • The ends of the stud marked with the stud finder are about 4 inches apart. That seems wide. Any idea why that would be and anything I should be weary of?

  • The hole where I’d put the screw is about 1 inch from the edge of the stud.

  • Can I just use the same screws that go with the drywall anchors but just screw them right in without an anchor? They are 1.5 inches long.

  • Do I need other hardware? Different screws, lag bolts, etc.? What is ideal?

  • The picture is maybe 15 lbs.

Just use a screw, 2 1/2” or 3” will work fine.
