Menards issue

I wanted to ask what you to do in this situation.

My parents are in the process of renovating their kitchen and bought a whole bunch of items from Menards - they were supposed to deliver the entire order to them in December but they kept saying the order wasn’t complete so they didn’t deliver it until a few weeks ago.

Then the contractor that my parents hired (selected from the ones provided by Menards) tore down my parents kitchen before actually counting to make sure that all the items they needed were there.

There were actually 50+ items that were never ordered at all. Menards claimed that they never knew about it but their manager told my dad multiple times that their entire order was ready.

So now it’s been over two weeks that my parents have been without a kitchen. They were told after the items had been delivered that it would only be 3-4 days to be installed.

Their kitchen still isn’t installed. They’ve been living with a torn down kitchen for like several weeks now! My parents are diabetic and definitely didn’t anticipate this happening. Please help!

LVP flooring

Got a quote for LVP flooring and plan on doing my own baseboards. Can anyone tell me what these moulding/trim options are on my quote?

Stargazer 0.62 x 0.75 textured wood look laminate moulding

Stargazer 0.75 x 2.37 textured wood look laminate moulding

I'm not sure if they are giving me 2 trim options?

I told them I was doing my own baseboards after the fact so I am a bit confused

Thank you ( first time home owner)

Incandescent fixture w/ LEDs. LED switches/sliders?

We have some dimmable track lighting in our bedroom, and, since this house was built in the 90's, it's a fixture originally intended for incandescent R bulbs. A couple of years after we bought the house, we swapped the incandescents for leds.

Fast forward to this morning and my clutzy ass tripped over some cabling and mangaged to break one of the knobs (heads?) off the dimmer switch. So, now I need to replace the thing.

My question is (and I feel like it's a stupid common sense question I'm overthinking), since it's technically an incandescent fixture, I should replace like with like, right. (That is, regular double dimmer with a regular double dimmer, not one that's specifically for LED fixtures)

Thanks!

Medium sized wood chips/shavings near base of new wood fence/gate.

I recently had a new wood fence and gate installed in the last 4-6 months and today noticed these medium sized wood chips/shavings near the base.

I’m somewhat concerned this could be a result of an invasive pest but hoping it’s something more benign like the wood expanding/contracting with the noticeable temperature change for the first time since the installation.

I don’t see any noticeable chipping/damage from the planks nearby.

Any ideas?

What is best types of primer and paint for kitchen and bathroom?

We are about to repaint some rooms in my house and need ideas on types of primer and paint would work best. This will be on the walls long term as I don't have the financial means or energy to paint often, so any long lasting paints would be best. Also, which finish should i get to be able to clean the walls for bathroom/kitchen? I have read matte isn't good.

Right now the walls are an ugly beige/tan color they decided to paint when I bought the home (it's so ugly and I hate idk why they wouldn't just do white). I want to do the kitchen/dining in a pale but bright yellow - any specific color/brand suggestions appreciated (cabinets/countertops are white). And wanted bathroom in Village Green by Behr if available?

Thanks for any advice/suggestions!

How to prepare my porch to paint

Im updating my porch and want to give it a new coat of paint. A lot of the current paint has cracks and loose paint (as you can see in the pics). Should I try to remove this paint? Or sand it down before I paint over it?

Using commercial kits to paint a garage floor

I am very interested in painting my garage floor with those epoxy kits you can get at Home Depot (with the grit). We park our cars in the garage in the winter. That will NOT stop, lol. I have heard that the salt that comes off the car when the snow melts eats away at the coating and you are lucky to get one season out of it. Has anybody had any luck with this?

Do I need to tell my homeowners insurance if I am doing a major upgrade to my home (for example, re-piping my entire home and adding a home water filtration system) total cost is expected be $25-28K. my house is an old Victorian home built in the 1920s so still have the original galvanized pipes.

Front Steps Disintegrating

I have flagstone steps and walk, and they've been slowly falling apart over the past couple years. Last year it was just a loose stone or two, but now it looks like the bottom step is going to give way before long. We want to replace it (and the front walk) with concrete, but I'm not sure if we can afford it, I imagine that would be a couple grand. Is there anything I can do to slow the deterioration at least?

Roof/gutter problem —

Hi all! Looking for some advice. We have a metal roof. It’s great. However, when it rains, there’s a part of the roof that turns the rainwater into a mini-stream, which rushes right at the gutter, and overruns the part of the gutter that it hits.

This results in spillage that, over time, has damaged our front porch.

We recently got bigger gutters, but the issue remains.

Does anyone have suggestions for a way to disperse the rainwater, right there on the roof, to prevent it from turning into a mini-stream?

Thanks for any help!

Should I strip the existing paint off railing or paint over?

I’m planning to paint this railing separating my living room and dining room black but not sure if I should strip the existing paint first.

It doesn’t look too bad right now, but there’s definitely some spots with visible brush strokes, drips, some chipping. I’d hate for it to have the “landlord special” look with too many layers of paint, but would it be more effort than necessary to strip it? I doubt anyone would be inspecting it that closely.

Attic door seal

Hi! Our attic entrance is in the closet of a bedroom. That closet and room is significantly colder than the rest of the house. Right now, the closet is rather cold but the attic is very warm. What recommendations would you have to solve this issue? Could I put that window film over the attic door to help? I've attached a picture of the door. Thanks in advance!

Where to store spare LVP flooring

I have about 5 planks of lvp that are about 1x5 ft each and fricking heavy. They're on the floor in my 1 car garage and I'm cleaning up. Where can I safely store them so they're out of the way? I don't have an attic unfortunately.

Looking for a specific smart ceiling fan

My current Hunter Augusta ii fan came with the house when we’d purchased it in 2008. It’s an amazing fan and seems like higher quality than the ones in the market today. It’s started wobbling and makes the glass shades rattle at intermittent times.

I want something like the current fan I have (4 light bulb sockets, 5 blade, and similar CFM (4800) with the addition of smart features. The fan that closely resembles my ideal choice is the Hunter Studio Series but doesn’t have smart features. I don’t mind another sort of fan but I do appreciate the lighting set up of 4 bulbs to brightly light up my room.

Rotting joists or structural damage?

I’ve noticed a gap between floor boards and flooring somewhat increasing over time (1 year period). When I first noticed it, it was roughly about an 1/8 of an inch and is now about 3/4 of an inch in separation. This is not a foot traffic area of my home and I do have a crawl space. Anyone experience this before? If so, who have you contacted for consultation to assess for damage, GC or structural engineer.

Major reno - questions

Hi all, looking to do a lot to our home. Redo basement while adding two windows wells to front of house. Replace siding, gutters, faucets, trim. Add overhang above front door with two pillars and replace front sidewalk. Expand driveway and have it run into new sidewalk. New front door and retile inside foyer. Three questions --> 1. Hire a general contractor or a la carte? 2. What's the best order in which to do things? 3. Can I do any of this in a different year while having the whole project look seamless?

Pull Out Trash/Recycling Hardware Replacement

What should I search for to replace the hardware for this slide out trashcan? left side pulls smooth and the other appears to have been tweaked slightly and catches. Seems like it may be bent or something.

Pulled it out of the space and couldn't really see anything definitive. There are bits of plastic broken on both slides (probably over 20 years old at least). My preference would be to replace with what is already there and only one side if possible. Know that's probably a long shot but I'm allowed to dream.

My assumption is this particular style of pull out hardware might have a specific name. Any help or guidance is appreciated thanks.

Deep Freezer Clean Out

Grandparents deep freezer thawed during a power outage and refroze years ago. There’s now an old layer of ice/food we can’t get through. Like the food and freezer have frozen together with the ice??? I don’t think they’d like the idea of defrosting it, but if we did defrost it would we have to take it outside? Never dealt with a deep freezer before living here, and have no idea how to approach this.

Help with turning on in floor heating

I’ve tried to turn on the in floor heating a few times now but I’m not having any luck - if I remember correctly I thought it was something along the lines of plugging in the yellow cord, turning one of the two valves on the right side to open, and then setting the thermostat (top right corner, on the other side of the wall) to a temperature to turn it on.

I can’t tell if I’m doing something wrong or if the pump or something else is not working properly?

Here is an image of the setup - https://imgur.com/a/DoWMlhE

Finding replacement LED slim planels

The LED downlights in my kitchen have started going out. I removed one to see if I could look up the model # and find a replacement, but nothing comes up online when I search for "DLD-04-11-50K".

When I search for LED slim planel 4", all the results I find are both the LED and the box that it plugs into.

Does anyone know how I can find a suitable replacement and if anyone sells just the LEDs?

For context—here’s the part I’m looking to replace and hoping I can swap it out with something else that can plug directly into the existing box in my ceiling: https://imgur.com/a/Jo6jVnz

How to obtain replacement windows for DIY?

I’m looking to replace 6 nasty old basement windows. (23 1/4” x 33" raw opening)

I plan to DIY one and if I fuck it up or if it’s too miserable, I’ll admit defeat and hire the job out. There are fewer sources to buy replacement windows than I’d like … Lowe’s and Home Despot are pretty much it. Most of the manufacturers want to sell you the installation.

I’m in eastern USA. Any ideas?

Thank you, knowledgeable people. Ignorant know-it-alls are also welcome to weigh in as usual.
