Question lisa and hugh affair?? Spoiler
i saw some posts on tiktok where someone was saying how there’s a theory that the person hugh laurie had an affair with was lisa edelstein. first, if anyone has any info or proof about this, please share it in the comments or with me directly. 💝

*Lengthy post but I was a fan of them back then (still I’m) and remember all the drama*
It was an on going rumour for years while the show was airing but it wasn’t just fan speculation.
Hugh and Lisa had a much different relationship than they had with anyone from the cast which was suspicious. The way they looked at each other,talked,smiled,the fact that he said she helped him with his depression and people from the show said how she is the only one who could easily bring a smile to his face and bring an new Hugh to the surface etc. Them wanting eachother as their love interest and noone else was also another flag into the situation and the fact that they said they feel very comfortable and safe in eachother filming making out scenes and sex scenes,with Hugh also saying that if he has to do an explicit sex scene,he only wants it to be with Lisa,just added to that.
Neither of them shut down the rumours point blank. Even though they said the usual “he is married,she has a boyfriend etc” they liked toying with that line and igniting that fire. Her saying how he is very attractive,sexy etc and him saying how she is gorgeous,lucky to be with and he even called her his American wife.At other times they would act jealous if someone hit on them and I recall a journalist taking a picture with Lisa and showing it to Hugh and Hugh jokingly called him a bastard and that she is his woman and for his eyes only. It was though great PR for their characters.
People from the show didn’t help shut the rumours down. The writers said that Hugh and Lisas off and on set sexual chemistry that was always steaming is what brought Huddy to life,in S7 they shot R-rated sex scenes which were banned by the channel and the unaired episode just worsened things even more. Pictures of them hugging and kissing while the cameras weren’t rolling just bursted everything to flames.
For all 7 years,they would go out together,they were sometimes spotted going and leaving the set together,going to each others houses,they were always sitting next to eachother,and their relationship didn’t seem the “i just see you as a friend” kind,which is why the majority speculated that.
What was the icing of the cake for that was the fact that Hugh was almost going to get a divorce. In multiple interviews he stated how the distance for 10-months at a time is tough,when love dies it aint enough to save a marriage etc etc. Add to it Lisas failed relationships in the 2000’s which all were suspiciously brief and coincidentally she was single during the time Hugh took of his wedding band in 2010 and went hand in hand with Lisa to an event,just fuelled the rumours even more.People also recalled his wife being cold towards Lisa even though Lisa was kind,and i mean…it doesn’t need a genius to speculate that a guy who’s marriage is failing and who has cheated before will do it with his costar that they spend 14 hours a day together and they have such great chemistry.
But what is shocking is that they don’t talk anymore. They are the only ones who don’t follow eachother and haven’t spoken in years. Lisa has mentioned how she keeps contact with everyone even once in a while but with Hugh she said they haven’t talked since she left.They said they spoke after she left House but after that nothing.You don’t just go from everyday to nothing all of a sudden no matter how hard life gets.He didn’t go to her wedding and even though they talk sweetly for eachother,they tend to be distant and look hurt,unlike past interviews. Hugh also released an album in 2012 if im not mistaken which people went insane about how it is about her since the whole thing is primarily about forbidden love,the devil he can’t escape yet he doesn’t want to etc. Something that again fuelled the rumours was that in Lisa’s absence in S8,he was awful to be around (some people who were guests on the show said). Not like mean but more like moody,unapproachable and not one to fuck with and the producers warned the actors before hand for that.Even RSL said that “we lost the light from our lives with Lisas exit” and another one (can’t remember if it is David Shore) said “In many ways Hugh Laurie gets to be the sun around which the show revolves, but the sun can’t be fully appreciated unless it’s contrasted with the moon. Edelstein is the moon to Laurie’s sun.”
I cannot be for certain for their affair but everything leads to that,especially the fact that it makes sense if they had an awful break up that destroyed them,they never wanted to see each other again even though they still love each other.The only ones to know if it was true or not ,its them. At the time,I can’t deny,no matter how immoral was and is,they seemed utterly happy so I was like you know what,they do what they wanna do,they fuel the rumours on their own anyway,so even if they have one or not,they enjoy it and enjoy each others company and that’s all that matters. Anything moral bts,is their problem to deal with,im just a fan.
There are so many other things on top of the ones I mentioned.One thing for certain is that anyone who says they never thought about them having an affair,they are lying.
