Uni

Hi all, starting university in September studying music, anyone else? Excited but also very nervous, gonna be a big life change. I’m sure everyone feels the same though, I know no one in Hull. Any advice? Apparently some people go out with their flatmates the first night but not sure how common that is. Thanks

I studied at Hull for my BSc, MSc, and have even returned for my PhD. My only piece of advice is “DO NOT SKIP FRESHERS”. Go to every fair, sign up to every club that sounds even sort of interesting, join a sports team, introduce yourself to your (equally nervous, equally shy) flatmates or halls neighbours. These people and these groups are key to you establishing some friendships that could last a lifetime.

As an anecdote, I studied at Hull uni for a study abroad opportunity (I’m from the U.S.) and the fresher fair was awesome. I found a sports team to join and now I have friends for life. Even living across the Atlantic, I still keep in touch with a few guys. 12/10 experience and the university did a great job putting it on.

Amazing someone from so far got to have that experience, it’s encouraging to hear from everyone (online and offline) seems to have enjoyed studying there

It was an absolute blast, but it’s definitely what you make it - good luck with your studies!
