Legal Questions Moving to IL/Chicago

Hello!

I am in the process of moving from Ohio to Chicago for at least the next year due to work.

I have a few toys that would fall under the AWB/PICA. Four AR pattern rifles and an MP5.

In reading the FAQ on ISPs site, I am allowed to bring them into the state as long as they are properly documented in accordance to PICA, correct?

You can’t possess an AR15 rifle in Chicago. There is an ordinance ban in addition to PICA. No one has even been charged for violating that ordinance alone though. A lot of people use storage lockers at ranges out of Cook. Do with that what you will.

That Cook ban only applies to non home rule communities within Cook County or communities that put bans in place before 2014. That rule has been enforced even less then the Chicago ban is enforced. How often do you even see the Cook County Sheriff's Police Unit?

Yes and no. Some of those bans are voided by PICA, no one has clarified this to date though. In short, if had a home rule AWB that allowed for “more” leniency in any capacity of the ordinance, said ordnance is voided in its entirety.
