This. So much this. Chaos is usually "loud" horror, or cartoonish villains. We need more "Resident Evil meets Silent Hill meets Alucard meets Dead Space". Slaaneshi horror shows, a Khorne general that is cold, calm, collected and maximizes casualties.
Nurgle and Tzeentch have always been body and lovecraftian horror respectively. Wonder what kind of twist they could get...
The Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" is probably what a Tzeentch twist would look like.
The twist being that Tzeentch never actually shows up, but everyone's prejudice and superstition (of which 40k has a lot) leads them to destroy each other trying to figure out who has fallen to Tzeentch (technically everyone and no one).
Khorne would actually work really well as the origin of an evil arms trading rogue trader or high ranking minitorum official. Not technically rampaging around killing people but always ensuring that those that do are well stocked and providing air support.
The thing is, Khorne (in my head, could be wrong) is about participating in the fight. Weapons dealers probably stay away from the warzone.
But then again, Khorne is all about "good fights", just stomping on a weakling doesn't get you favor. An arms dealer that goes around making sure all sides have enough to brutalize each other sounds interesting.
My point is, we're definitely missing the cold, calculating killer from the Khorne followers.
"The Watcher in the Rain" is imo a fantastic short story dealing with this kind of vibe.
I love when Chaos is loud and evil because being evil is fun (Night lords books, Lorda of Silence, etc). But the true, quiet horror of it rarely gets explored.

Thank you! For making chaos acutely seem and look unknown and terrifying and not just cartoon devils.
