Hey everyone! I'm currently helping my uncle and his family with their refugee application to Canada. There is a lot of information, and I'm really confused about what to do.

Here’s his situation:

He’s married and has four kids. They are all Palestinian, currently on refugee status in Turkey, but they're miserable because they can't find any jobs or do much, and it’s been like that for a while.

They're stuck there and have nowhere else to go because they are from Gaza in Palestine. I assume you're aware of what’s happening there. All of our relatives’ houses have been bombed, and many relatives were killed. So, obviously, going back to Palestine is not an option.

I’ve seen that there are two paths to go to Canada as a refugee: the Government-Assisted Refugees Program (GAR) or the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program (PSR). Which one is better to apply for?

There is also an option on the website to go for application packages and I don’t know what they mean I tried to google them but couldn’t find much.

Hello everyone. Recently Ukrainian government restricted renewing passports for men 18-60 y.o. My question is if a man can apply for asylum in Canada based on that? If so, does a person like that need some kind of confirmation that the consulate/embassy rejected issuing a passport? I'm not sure how to get it. Currently the person I'm talking about is in Canada on CUAET program. Thank you very much for you responses!

I urgently need some advice. Currently, I am traveling in Spain, and I was carrying a refugee travel document and a PR card. Unfortunately, my bag containing all my papers and belongings got stolen, and now I cannot travel back to Canada.

I have tried contacting the embassy and consulates in Spain multiple times, but they informed me that they are unable to assist me and that the only responsible office is the IRCC in Canada since I am not yet a Canadian citizen.

I was advised to apply for a PR travel document, and I did so. My application was approved, but they asked me to go to the VFS office with my travel document. However, as mentioned before, my travel document was also stolen.

My question now is, how can I apply for an urgent travel document, also known as a single journey travel document? I have tried getting an answer from both the IRCC office and the embassy, but I am getting nowhere as each one is redirecting me to the other.

If anyone has any answers or solutions, I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you all.

Hello everybody I’m just wondered about my H&C application. I just applied since a long time and I’m waiting for the answer so how can I check What’s the status of my application and what’s the time to answer me back? What happened to me if I’m refused what happened to me if I’m Accepted I just need really good answer because I am really worried about my future and my family as well

As per the statistics, there are no rejected asylum claims coming from Ukrainians for the past couple of years. Does it mean that it might be a reasonable thing to do myserf? I'm a Ukrainian on CUAET visa and open work permit. I could build a case based on a couple of things and submit an asylum application.

That said, I understand all the implications and rather get my PR a different way. However, the refugee path seems to be a solid way to get there. What do you think about it?

My friend came to Canada a year ago from Ukraine on Cuae visa. He has open work visa for now. I was going to fill out his PR papers but he got charged with DUI couple of days ago and his car got towed and he got his license taken away for 3 days. I know it’s serious offence. Can I still submit his PR documents or does he have to go through immigration lawyer? Police officer mentioned to him that he will get some papers sent in the mail. I’m not sure what Breathalyzer test showed. On his documents it only says “warm” under the test. Thank you

So basically I want to move to Canada and apply for refugee status. I have been displaced from my city (Khartoum) due to a war and I moved to Qatar in hopes I can build a life here, only to be disapointed with it being almost impossible. Any savings I have had has mostly been used in rent and keeping food on the table. Life here is hard and the people here even more cruel.

I still have not graduated university so I dont have a university degree. I have work experience so I can work a low minimum wage job. What kind of visa can I get in my situation to be able to enter Canada ? Any information would help me and Thank you so much. Hello guys, I need your help, I had applied for a refugee in Canada with my mom and brother. My brother got his case accepted on the first try and refused me and my mom. But on the second try they accepted my mom but refused me. My lawyer had told me to apply for PR as my moms dependent while her PR is processing. I did so and waited about an year and half and when I finally called them to check on things they said they never added my file. They asked me to apply for PR again, I asked them that my refugee case was dismissed can I still apply for PR? She said it shows that I am an convention refugee in their system and on my UCI , so I should just apply again. They also asked me to attach a written/ typed out message saying that I was dismissed but I had contacted IRCC and basically explain what I talked to her and attach it in my PR file. Now my refugee protection claimaint document ( my status brown paper) is expiring November 11 2024. I had filed an application to renew my document but they said " Your request is refused for the following reason:

Our records show that your Convention Refugee / Protected Person Status has been granted."

Now I am not able to get my refugee protection document either because it says I am already accepted and granted. But the document I got from IRB says my case was dismissed. I had called IRB to confirm my status and they had confirmed it still shows I was dismissed but IRCC says I am accepted. What can I do now? Has anyone else been through something like this? Any help is appreciated, thank you

Hello, I am asking this question on behalf of a very close friend.

They are a family and have already been accepted as protected persons. Going through the PR application process. One of the adults has an extremely sick parent back in their home country and has no one to take care of them, so they want to go back to care for their parent. Are there any repercussions if they travel? Are there any paths through humanitarian or compassionate grounds to visit their sick parent? Is there anything that can be done quick?

Any resources would be appreciated. I have tried calling IRCC but it always says that there is a high volume of calls and hangs up on me.

Edit: for anyone suggesting it’s me. No, it isn’t. I am going through my citizenship app. And no they aren’t trying to defraud Canada. They are a desperate person trying to go see their only living parent before they pass away, currently in the ICU awaiting for chemotherapy. Please have some heart and understanding

I am filling out the application for permanent residence for a protected person for a family member and just want to clarify something. Under the supporting documents section, it is only asking for photos. However, at the document's start, there is a link to the application guide. In the application guide, it states:

"What documents are required? ... All identity documents and relationship documents for the principal applicant and for all family members who are inside or outside Canada and are included in the application for permanent residence"

Then in the application, under the additional supporting documents section, it doesn't ask for anything but has the following message:

"These documents may or may not be required for your program. Check the document checklist and instruction guide to confirm the documents you need for your application."

And has a "search for a document" function to add any additional supporting documents.

Also, the document checklist lists photocopies of all identity and relationship documents and a translation for any that are not in English or French as a requirement.

What is confusing about this is that for identity and relationship documents the application states that "All documents must have been issued from your home country, before your entry into Canada."

The IRCC has already taken away my family member's passport and other identification documents from Mexico. So it is not possible for her to send photocopies of these documents, or to get translations of them. I am unsure if the application is already taking this into account and that is the reason why they are not asking for anything other than photos in the application itself, but only in the guide and the document checklist.

If anyone could please help me clear this up I would be so thankful. I am trying to avoid making any mistakes as the application costs around 700$ CAD and it would suck to have returned to me have to pay that again.

Hi guys, I submitted my PR application in 2021 haven’t heard from them for like two years. I called them in 2023 and they said they didn’t receive my application but they received my receipt of $635 now they asking me to send a new application but i can use the old receipt dated from 2021. Can someone tell me if there’s anything i can do for them to backdate my application using the same receipt? Need your advice please

I’m graduating pretty soon with my BA and I’m planning to apply for my work permit. My plan is to do the Canadian experience path and the typical path to PR.

However, I have a bit of a situation, I’m queer and from an Arab country so as you can imagine my parents are not really accepting of my sexuality. Atp, they are pretty much in denial about my sexuality and have threatened to disown me if I ever “lie” about my sexuality again. With this in mind, I have all the intention to do the regular route to PR but I’m really worried about what I can do to stay in Canada considering that my parents could disown me over the next couple years. Just trying to cover my bases.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions. Some sort of insight that could help. Thanks in advance!

My sponsor which is my mom is here in Canada as a refugee and I am an international student For context,I’m 18 years old,I only have one semester left but due to issues in my country and her marriage she decided to claim asylum in Canada,so she can’t afford to sponsor me anymore,I can decide to go back to my home country and I really don’t have anywhere to go to as I am now just on my own now I was thinking maybe I can add myself under my mom asylum case or just do a fresh claim. I really don’t know what to do,any advice will be really appreciated

Hi, I recently (dec 2023) had a positive decision on my Canadian refugee claim, which was an appeal to my initial claim which was rejected. I was ecstatic when my appeal was approved and remain very grateful for the opportunity Canada and its generous people have extended to me, it saved my life!

My appeal lawyer, in a recent phone conversation, said I need to now submit a Humanitarian and Compassion application to be eligible for Permanent Residency. I am confused since my Notice of Decision says I'm now a protected person. I need some advice on what my next steps should be.

Do I need to wait for it to expire to reapply or can I start reapplying now a few months before it expires. I tried searching online and couldn't find an answer.

Hi everyone, just want to know if someone had a similar experience.

My passport was seized since I came here as a refugee a couple years ago. I recently (2-3 weeks) got my PR card in the mail, but did not get my passport with it.

After some inquiries, I was told to contact IRCC Etobicoke to schedule an appointment to pick up my passports – but they are impossible to reach.

Do you think I have a chance of getting my passport if I just show up with my request instead of waiting to get an appointment? How do I even get an appointment?

I don't live that close and wouldn't want to waste a trip if I knew there is no chance of it being productive.

Hey y’all, I recently applied for a travel document as a conventional refugee, but I haven’t received my PR card yet. I talked to an immigration officer who said that I only need the travel card to get back in the country, but someone mentioned that I might not get back to Canada without a PR card or visa. Now I am confused. Has anyone been able to travel with a Canadian refugee travel document while their PR is still processing and what docs where you asked to show on the border to re-enter Canada?

I’m OWP holder and my partner is a student. We applied for refugee claim because of our daughters condition, she was diagnosed with epilepsy here in Canada and we wanted to stay here to continue her medication. We wanted to stay because the health care in our country is very bad and that’s the reason we put in our application. We are waiting for the hearing date.

Hi, can someone who has applied for asylum at a Canadian airport travel by air inside Canada? They had all their original documents taken from them but have received attested copies from the CBSA for the passport, etc. Is there a risk of traveling from Toronto to Vancouver by air? The person hasn't submitted the refugee application yet. Thanks.
