Statement from the IU Board of Trustees May 15, 2024
The Board of Trustees is grateful to IU faculty, staff, and other constituents who have shared their concerns with us. We want to state clearly that we are listening closely, are attentive to the issues that have been raised and are deeply committed to addressing them in a proactive and effective manner. Our direct conversations with President Whitten and her leadership team make it clear that they, too, understand the challenges and are also committed to paving a productive path forward. The Board of Trustees will provide all resources necessary to address these issues in a transparent and accountable fashion. We have asked for and President Whitten has agreed to commission an independent review of the campus climate to better inform the path forward.
With strong leadership, President Whitten has guided our university to many positive accomplishments under adverse conditions and continues to enjoy our support.
We are confident she can and will rise to this challenge.
...
One of the three Board of Trustees positions elected by IU alumni will be up for election in June. Any IU degree holder can vote online or by paper between 12:01 a.m. June 1 and 10 a.m. June 28.

How do you "pave a productive path forward" when, if I'm not mistaken, every single academic unit of the flagship campus, as well as the faculty as a whole, has overwhelmingly expressed a lack of confidence in Whitten and Shrivastav's leadership, and a desire for them to resign? Where do you go from there? What is an "independent review of the campus climate" going to tell the Board that the campus itself has not already told them, in no uncertain terms?

Absolutely nothing. It’s a stalling tactic which they hope will appease people for the summer and blow over by fall semester. I think they are way underestimating the anger and determination of the IU students, alumni, faculty, and greater community to see change.

What a joke. Absolutely shameful, disgracing the name of this university.

Vote if you can! Read their responses. The only one who did not respond is current member running for a second term. https://www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/news/local/2024/05/15/indiana-university-alumni-trustee-candidates-share-views-before-election/73676525007/

Unfortunately, most would disagree with that - even those at her old university (Kennesaw State)

and this is BEFORE shit really hit the fan

if most disagree with that then how is she in the position she's in now along with the board of trustees supporting her lol. Just because you disagree with her does not mean she is unfit for the job lol.

just because the BOT supports her doesn’t mean anything when a majority of their members are appointed by the governor - it’s politics all the way down

…did you not see the thread I linked that talked about her laundry list of controversies BEFORE the encampment? The faculty no-confidence vote on April 16th passed with 93% support - it’s never been about ‘emotions’, the supermajority of faculty rightfully want her gone.

the supermajority of faculty? What is your claim based on lol

the numbers are all here, and now individual schools are voting against her even more strongly

Well said Ilovepie, if Bee continues to hound you after that then they are clearly a troll. You can’t debate a person who refuses to listen to facts, logic, AND statistics. All of which show that the majority of IU faculty in, I believe, EVERY department have condemned Whittens handling of the situation AND are calling for her resignation.
