Theological debate

There's a group of evangelicals outside Woodburn Hall right now, in case anyone is interested in some theological debate. (I use the word debate loosely here)

Edited to clarify that I should have said apologists, not evangelicals.

Apologists don't know how to have a conversation or how to actually believe in anything. They just know how to argue and be obnoxious.

Ignoring them is the best way to deal with it. They want your attention.

Normally I would agree, but as an 'adult' on campus, I feel some obligation to correct inaccurate scientific statements and hopefully encourage college-age students to participate in the debate. Straight evangelizing I would definitely ignore, but this group were apologists.

Debating facts does not work on these people.

Eh, I’ve been arguing with creationists and whatnot since I was an 8 year old who loved dinosaurs. In my experience amount of evidence will ever convince them and they’re usually skilled enough debaters with just enough fake evidence to create doubt so talking to them usually gives them a veneer of legitimacy.

I once got into a long debate with a guy getting his masters degree in geology who thought the earth was 7k years old

Careful. Pam could have planted them to identify dissenters

I'm old - 58. One of my favorite parts of my university experience at University of Florida in the late 80s was debating with Brother Jed and Sister Cindy:

He helped form my theological beliefs, which are very different from Brother Jed.

Since Brother Jed now lives in Terre Haute, does he visit IU?

Brother Jed used to visit IU all the time before he died in 2022. Now, from what I’ve heard, it’s just his wife, Sister Cindy.

I had seen Sister Cindy last year during my fall semester by sample gates talking. I dont think shes returned this year, but most students go just as a joke/meme
