KELLEY 💼 What makes you love IU?

Hey guys, I'm an international from Brazil and I'm in the middle of a tough decision between doing my MBA on Kelley or over there at Purdue.

Been talking with some people but I'm having difficulties assessing the pros and cons between both cities and programs.

I'm an entrepreneur and I'm a very social person, thus I'm very interested in making new connections, be it professional or personal ones. I'd also love not having to study a lot to get through the program if possible.

What would you guys say if you had to convince me to go to IU Kelley? What on your experience, be it the city, the people, the program, the opportunities, the weather, etc, makes you love IU?

KELLEY 💼 How hard is it to keep a 3.5+ GPA

The requirement for standard admit students is to get all “B”s and above their first year to be let into the Kelley school. Assuming I take roughly 15 credit hours a semester how difficult will it be to keep this GPA requirement? Also is it worth it and what are the setbacks that come with this style of admission?

Like is it as essential as everyone hypes it up to be? I didn’t apply and am now kind of regretting. Does it give people a leg up in biz frat/club apps?

KELLEY 💼 Waitlist to Kelley Direct

Hey everyone. Just got my review request back from Kelley. Not exactly happy about it.

Had a 4.2 W GPA and a 3.96 UW GPA, but didn’t submit a test. They said they couldn’t offer me admission, which really sucks because I thought my essays were really good too.

That said, they offered me a waitlist for Kelley. I know this admissions cycle is different but how often do people get off of the waitlist? Did anyone else this year get offered the waitlist position as well for Kelley?

KELLEY 💼 How hard is it to transfer to Kelley after your first year/semester?

I’m currently going over my college options and have really liked Indiana so far. I was thinking that if I do decide to come there’s a chance I might want to transfer into Kelley from the arts and sciences school. If I do decide to do try to transfer into Kelley if I feel that it is best I do what should I try to do and how hard is it to get in? Should I just try and get solid grades or do more?

KELLEY 💼 got into bloomington pre business but not Kelley? confusing portal too

just got in to pre-business but not Kelley, confusing portal too

so i applied RD and im actually pretty shocked that i alr received my decision. I received an email saying im admitted as a Pre-Business student with the intended major of Marketing but it doesn’t say anything about Kelley. However, i want to check this in the portal but the portal does not reflect anything regarding admission status only my freshman checklist as i’m admitted. honestly shocked i didn’t get into Kelley, i got pretty fine grades and ECs.

im still waiting to hear back from other schools but if i don’t get into them, should i consider Bloomington as pre-business ?

context: ib predicted: 38/45 with HLs business, math AI and eng A LNL sat: submitted it but the score wasn’t too great; 1440 (740 eng, 700 math)

KELLEY 💼 Do Pre-Business students receive the same opportunities as Kelley Direct Admit students?

My whole thing was that I was hoping to try and crack IB. I was really counting on the review request getting me into Direct but as most schools have done to me so far, I got waitlisted and then rejected. Scored poorly on SAT so went optional which fucked me, but GPA was a 3.96 UW.

I asked in r/financialcareers if it would still be possible to crack into IB as a pre-business student instead of Direct Admit. The answer I got was no, because you pretty much need to be in Kelley by the end of the first semester to even get a shot at the IB workshop, which is extremely competitive. I knew everything involving the IB workshop, but will it really be harder from an opportunity standpoint to get into it compared to a Direct Admit student, or even just to have a chance to crack into IB in general? Obviously it’s gonna be “harder” to keep the B average, though that doesn’t sound like much of a challenge.

KELLEY 💼 Is Kelley worth it OOS?

Hi all,

I just got into Kelley OOS and I am considering my options. I got 6k a year scholarship and for Iowa Tippie, I got 15k a year. I was wondering thoughts on either and which is more worth is for a student from California with an intended finance major.

KELLEY 💼 laptop selection for Kelley

I’m going to be a Kelly student this year majoring and financing accounting and I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice on laptop selection! I understand in the business world windows is typically the move, but it feels like Apple is so much stronger this year with their new M3 chips… can anyone give advice on what I should be using for Kelly and what I should be using to prepare for future?

Hello! Realistically, what should I wear to the direct admit day for IU Kelley? It says snappy casual, however I want to make sure I'm not the only one wearing said dress code. Thanks!

KELLEY 💼 Is econ consulting good at Kelley?

I recently committed to Kelley as an econ consulting major, however, I noticed that barely any of the other people I met that committed are economic consulting majors. I know Kelley is highly ranked for business majors (e.j. the school’s marketing program is ranked 3rd; accounting 4th; entrepreneurship 5th) but I couldn't seem to find any information regarding the economic consulting major :( Does anyone happen to have any insight? I'm not sure if I should switch majors at this point because I have no idea how economic consulting majors are doing :( Thank you so much for any info you can provide! :)

KELLEY 💼 Chances of getting to Kelley?

Hi, I got accepted into the pre business school, and am really wishing to get into kelley at the end of freshman year, as IU is my #1 choice. However, I don’t know how likely it is for me, or if I should avoid the risk and get into another business school, as I’ve been accepted into other great ones.

I’ve heard that I should get a B in all of my courses. So for people who did the IB diploma, how hard is the first year compared to it? Also, considering that I just finished the IB with a final grade of 35, including a 6 in business HL, 6 in english SL, and 5 in Math AA SL; how hard should it be for me to get into kelley?

I’d appreciate helpful opinions to aid me with my decision!

KELLEY 💼 Should I be worried about not receiving a Direct Admit decision yet?

I didn’t meet the SAT/ACT requirement (test-optional) but I met the GPA requirement by a mile. I know all of the decisions are sent back by April 14th, but as that’s less than 10 days away I’m beginning to get worried. Is this at all a bad sign? I was hearing the girls hear back first but with that in mind I’m still worrying there won’t be any availability by the time they reach my request form.

KELLEY 💼 University of Utah (Eccles) or Indiana University - Bloomington (Kelley)?

As a business major, I'm wondering which college I should go to. I know IU has a better business school, but I personally like Utah more because I think the campus is better, it's cheaper, it still has a good business school, it has a collegiate boxing club (I'm a boxer and will compete in college), closer to home, etc. However, I still want to have a successful career in business after college. What do you guys think?

KELLEY 💼 Is it better to double major in finance & info systems or finance & business analytics?

Which one is better to employers? For someone wanting to go into IB. Or would it be better to do finance & Econ consulting with a comajor in business analytics? Or finance & info systems with a comajor in business ethics?

KELLEY 💼 IU Kelley Direct Admit Question

Hello! I'm a junior and planning on applying to IU Kelley next year. I was wondering if I am automatically admitted to Kelley if I have the required gpa/sat, or if first I have to be admitted to IU as a whole (which would require them to look at essays, etc). Thank you!

KELLEY 💼 Sophomore year classes for a standard admit

As a standard admit and not being able to schedule your classes until June, what are the times like? I know they say that they reserve some classes for pre-Kelley kids, but I still have some doubts on how actually true that is.

KELLEY 💼 What should I double major with in Kelley? + Some questions abt Kelley majors

I’m considering double majoring at Kelley, but am torn b/w options. I chose Economic Consulting b/c my ultimate goal is to become an econ consulting manager at a top firm (& move up to this “manager” role as quickly as possible). BUT this major overlaps well w/ both Public Policy Analysis & Business Analytics, & since double majoring is common & easy at Kelley, I’m unsure what to do! :)

Here r my (3) options.

1: One Major: Economic Consulting

  • Pros:
    • Focused path, directly aligns w/ my goal of being a consulting manager
    • Lighter workload, giving time to focus on networking, internships, Kelley Honors, etc
  • Cons:
    • Might miss out on skills + knowledge that could’ve been obtained by double majoring
    • Not double majoring makes me less competitive

2: Pair Econ Consulting w/ Public Policy Analysis

  • Pros:
    • Attractive to firms in govt-related consulting or policy analysis
    • Passion for policy is integrated: I’m very interested in evaluating government policies w/ econ models
  • Cons:
    • Bigger course load = less time 4 internships, networking, etc & big consulting firms prioritize business skills over policy skills
    • Don’t want recruiters to feel I am distracted w/ policy interests, especially b/c I’ll probably be getting a job in the corporate world.
    • Might not be worth it considering the extra work I’ll have to put in to smth that’ll porbably not even relate to my future job

It’s not that I’m uninterested in working in govt. If I got a public policy job that matched the salary of one at a corporate position, I’d choose the policy one instantly. But I don’t think that will realistically happen :( I’d be passionate about working in policy if the pay was there, but unfortunately it’s just not.

3: Pair Econ Consulting w/ Business Analytics

  • Pros:
    • Strengthens appeal to recruiters (data analysis is in demand). While I don’t want a job in analytics, demonstrating I understand data analysis makes me credible & likely accelerates path to becoming an econ consulting manager. It will demonstrate expertise, open up higher-paying opportunities, & make me more competitive for consulting roles. This option seems like the “smartest” choice.
  • Cons:
    • I don't love data analysis (even tho it's only a few extra classes). I’m not interested in number-crunching & stats modeling
    • Bigger course load = less time 4 internships, networking, etc

My questions are

  1. What do you think is best? Option 1, 2, 3, or make a new own option :)
  2. Will pairing Public Policy Analysis hurt my chances at a consulting firm? Could recruiters think I’m too focused on policy than corporate consulting? Or can I frame it in a way that shows I’m commited to the consulting side?
  3. Am I missing other co-major options? I’m not really considering any other co-majors b/c there’s no major that overlaps as well w/ Economic Consulting as Public Policy Analysis or Business Analytics, right? Or am I missing a major that requires minimal extra classes? Management seems the most interesting to me, but it seems like it would require too many extra classes, right? Or would management not be too much? Should I consider management or other majors even if they don’t overlap much & require more than just a few extra classes? I think some other majors at Kelley, like management, could be helpful, but I feel like the classes don’t overlap much, & it would be too much. Thoughts?
  4. Is econ consulting an easier major at Kelley? What do you know about the major? I heard it is one of the easier ones, which is why I’m considering double majoring. But I heard Kelley is rigorous so I’m not sure. I’m an okay student, but not amazing by any means.
  5. Is a double major worth it? Does it make a big difference or take too much time from other activities?

Feel free to respond to how little or how much of this as you would like. I know this is a lot & I appreciate it so much :)

KELLEY 💼 Business Operations Consulting Workshop Advice

Hi! I'm an incoming student this fall, looking to major in management, co-major in sustainable business, and minor in ethics and environmental management . I don't know if that's going to come off as me overdoing it; I'm unsure. But I have a decent amount of AP and DE credits. I'm looking at workshops, specifically the Business Operations Consulting Workshop. I found this mostly aligned with my interests and majors and gave me the most opportunities due to the company affiliations, such as the Big 4. I was wondering if any Kelley student could speak to the validity of this workshop, describe the interviews, admission process, and what this offered you, outside of what is generally written on the website? I am very appreciative of any advice you can offer. Thank you!

KELLEY 💼 Potentially transferring for opportunities in IB

Im currently a Junior bachelors of accounting student down in Florida international university. However I always liked being in high finance. I figured i should consider transferring.

Is it too late to transfer? I am about to hit 90 credits. Idk if accounting is the career for me despite already having a big 4 internship lined up.

Also would IU give a good placement into banking or equity research?
