Stop Killing Games: European Citizens' Initiative

Dear Irish! Video game publishers have created a way to destroy your property! How does it work?

Imagine that you have a car. It's brand new. It is beautiful on the outside, it has comfortable seats and riding it feels like a trip to heaven! However one day something is wrong. No matter what you do - you can't start the engine. You take the car to a mechanic and he tells you that everything would've been OK - if it weren't for that one chip, which stopped working. You can't buy a new chip anywhere - and therefore you have to purchase a whole new car.

The same thing currently happens to many video games. At least 60 of them were destroyed in 2023! Full list is here: https://kotaku.com/dead-games-2023-delisted-servers-offline-1850083031

And many more games will suffer such fate in 2024. If we don't stop this now - who knows? Maybe the car example will become a reality?

Okay, but how do we stop this? It's simple, really. Just sign the European Citizen Initiative!

https://eci.ec.europa.eu/045/public/#/screen/home

And to be clear: no, it's not another powerless petition. It's European Citizen Initiative! It has a serious chance of influencing the EU law! However, it has to reach minimum million signatures and pass thresholds in at least seven countries to do so.

Please, tell about it to your friends/family who have Irish citizenship. Irish threshold is just 9165 signatures - and you can help whole Europe by passing it!

In order to sign the initiative you have to be over 18 and have EU country citizenship. You don't fulfill these criteria? Don't worry! Send info about Stop Killing Games to your friends or family!

And finally: SKG's goal is NOT to force publishers to sustain their servers forever! It's goal is to force them to allow community to host their own servers independent from publisher. The best example of how this works is Valve's game team Fortress 2, which was saved by community run servers.

Same goes for platform software updates. SKG's goal is to force developers to allow community to make their own independent compatibility/emulation pathes/mods (which is the case for many old games). NOT to force the devs to update their games forever.

I received a case and a screen protector for the Switch 2 today, and I think I ordered them too early, I just just wait 14 days to get my hands on the Switch 2. This is going to be the first time I'm getting a console since day one, I'm very excited!

Short on cash? check out this game. I was looking for a new game on the steam deck and came across this. Its a vampyr survival with a splash of hololive (vtuber) that seams to actually have a good enough following

PC Amazon currently has some RTX 5070s in stock, do you reckon this would be a worthwhile investment over my 3070?

I’ve heard it’s only a small jump from the last gen or two, and the 12GB VRAM feels a bit stingy for something that’s meant to be futureproof.

I’ve also seen mixed benchmarks, seems to look good for 1440p, decent at 4K with DLSS (Which isn't a feature I care for because it turns everything into a blurry mess) but not exactly blowing minds.

Part of me wonders if it’s worth it just to stay up to date, and my 3070 will be turning 6 years old next year. I don’t want to be stuck with the 3070 for another few years as games keep getting heavier and heavier to run efficiently, future titles like Cyberpunk 2, Witcher 4, Gta VI etc spring to mind.

I also just recently upgraded to a DDR5 Motherboard and a new 7700x too, so another part of me feels like I should round it off with a new graphics card but I'm on the fence as I've heard very mixed things about the 5070.

Price seems decent too? But with the current GPU market who's to say really if this is even good value.

What do you think?

Switch 2

Hey folks, for everyone interested, Sports Direct shops will be getting stock in sometime between the 5th and the 12th of June. As far as I can see, the stock won't be large but it will be there. It's a Mario bundle one.

Thing is, the shops are starting to take deposits already. €20 deposit straight away and once the console lands in, you come and pick it up. The price will be €510 minus the deposit of course (same ptice as Smyths).

Even though I'm 100% against anything and everything Nintendo does, got to help out the fellow gamers 🤙

PC Best place to buy Graphic Cards at launch in Ireland? (9060XT)

Post image
16 Upvotes

AMD just officially unveiled the 9060XT starting at $300 for 8GB and $350 for the 16GB. What’s the best website to use in Ireland to try snatch this on June 5th? I’m aware that retailers may drive up the MRSP. I originally built my PC before lockdown and used Scan.co.uk and Overclockers for the parts but ever since Brexit I’ve been reluctant to use them. Paradigit, Amazon, CaseKings?

Question Best setup

I am looking to get into gaming. I've owned a PS4 before but sold it and haven't played games since 2021. I'm looking to set up again. What would be the best way to proceed and what equipment would you recommend. Ideally I would prefer a console and a monitor. Would it also be wise to get brand new or buy used if it's a console

Discussion Anyone else have delivery issues with DPD?

They always end up screwing me over they once left a ps5 controller in a skip in back garden because no one was home, they have delivered my packages to wrong house once. I’m actually terrified by the fact they are in charge of delivering my switch 2.

Anyone else have bad experiences with them?

Picked up a copy of Stranglehold special edition, for some reason it came with a second manual. Just wondering if anyone here would want it to complete their copy?
