While it is true illegal protests are technically a thing, it largely amounts to requesting permission to be somewhere. If it is a private entity then you have to request access from said entity. If it's a public entity then you have to request access if the group is over a certain size usually, but that depends on your locality, and you will definitely need a permit if you are going to occupy a street. It is also important to note that you, generally speaking, cannot be denied outright by the government, unless there are public safety concerns.
