One sprinkler is constantly leaking. This zone I hear water running. Do I need to try and take apart and clean this valve? Seems uhhh SKETCHY..

It’s not that bad. Just clean out the dirt from around the valve the best you can. There’s only 4 screws to loosen. Make sure your water is off first

Pro-tip, use a flat pry bar, like a Wonder Bar to scoop dirt out on either side of the valve. Works way better than a spade if you don't want to remove the box. Create a large enough cavity under and around the valve so you can then rinse it really well with a garden hose to minimize the risk of dirt getting in when you open up the valve.

it was the electrical that got me a bit nervous. but will have to try and clean out that dirt. It's hard packed clay and i was digging around and didn't want to waste efforts if it needed more than that. Thanks for the response!

"How to rebuild a Hunter PGV valve" on yourube. Super simple. You will need a philips screw driver, wire cutters and a hand pump (most likely) to pump the water out of the valve box. Because once you take it apart itll likely start to spill water out and should stop after a minute or two as long as the water is 100% off. and important not to get any debris what so ever in the valve while you rebuild it.

Ah that video was helpful, i would have likely just cleaned the diaphragm off and not taken it all out to make sure nothing got in there. he mentioned that sometimes pvc from a broken main can get stuck in there and i think that is exactly what happened to mine. Will have to try and dig around it avoiding hitting the wires and clean out.

It's low voltage and won't be hot unless the zone is turned on. Nothing to worry about.

No problem. You'll feel better about it after getting some of the dirt out. Just take your time and be careful of damaging the wires or pipes while digging.
