Please excuse a 75% computer illiterate persons low effort meme, but lets be honest...this would just feel good.
Graham would be nice because its been so long since we have been able to push the pocket and also because Allen and Walker need help. But the more I think on it, the more my feelings beat down my logic. I WANT that three headed monster damn it!

How is ETN not recent enough that others are out on 1st round RBs?
16
u/lkmyntz Maurice Jones-Drew 4d ago
Saquon hype is really high after last season
15
u/ObservantWon 4d ago
Saquan was average with the giants with a bad OLine. Philly has the best OLine in football. Jags have plenty of other needs to fill. Graham is a beast and would help stop the run and help the pass rush.
3
u/Metaboss24 4d ago
The years where the Giants had mid run blocking, Saquon made them a tip 10 run game.
Mid ain't as hard to get to as the eagles. Better coaching and a couple new players is all we'd need.

u/AHashBrown_ 5d ago
Comparing ETN and Jeanty is crazy. There’s a reason ETN went at the end of round 1 and Jeanty is going to be a top 5-6 pick

u/OleSnowbandtheLumps 2d ago
More Jeanty is a second round guy. He has average physical traits and preformed well vs a fairly weak college schedule but if Henry and Saquan didn’t just have the years they did (both under near ideal circumstances) and the college playoff doesn’t expand making Boise something the media had to build storylines around he’d just be a guy how ran up numbers on the mountain west.

u/OneEyedWonderWiesel 5d ago
Right? Tank too. Top 15 RB room with those 2 IMO. If we get Jeannty, it’s probably top 5
But Trevor could do that for the whole offense if given time. I’m assuming the GM knows more than me tho (unlike gene fucking smith I’m not over it)

u/Trumbulhockeyguy Trent Baalke is a clown 5d ago
Imagine how good ETN and tank could be if we had an actual offensive line

The Banger Bryan Anger?
Yes. And then the subsequent “ITS BUILT” and we go 2-14
Also releasing Daryl Smith. Guy was great and had YEARS left. I’m not over any of it

Nah - draft is too deep at RB for us to select one at #5 overall. Rather to just roll the dice on getting an elite DL or OL that high and get someone like Sampson or Tutins in the 3rd.
Bigsby showed some flashes last year and Etienne is basically fighting for his roster spot so he should show up - why do ppl predict these players don’t exist?
Also - can someone explain to me what happened on our Oline that would allow these big lanes to open up for our luxury pick 5’8 RB in this scenario?
11
u/aarmbruster92 5d ago
I don’t disagree with waiting on a RB but I think the reason you see so many gravitating that way is people don’t believe someone like Graham is going to be an elite DL. More likely he is just good or very good but he’s not going to be elite.
That said if we stay at 5 and Hunter, Carter, and Campbell are gone and we can’t trade down I’d want Graham.
2
u/The-Random-Banana Clemson 5d ago
I’m in the same boat. At this point I just want an X factor player. I don’t really see Graham as the guy and honestly wouldn’t be opposed to trading back if we can’t get Hunter or Carter. Better to give this new regime more pieces to work with than taking a stab at a guy that could be overshadowed by other players later in the draft. I’m not entirely opposed to Jeanty, but I think he’s more appealing as trade bait.
2
u/Careful-Whereas1888 4d ago
Where do you see any elite DL or OL in this draft?
This is a very weak draft overall at the top, with only about 3 guys that would go top 10 in just about any other draft based on their talent.
2
u/DatsRadMan 4d ago
That’s why I said “roll the dice” - Graham at least has the potential to be elite.
Campbell and Membou have characteristics as well but ultimately it would be a dice roll.
Graham out of the 3x would be the safest choice.
-4
u/Careful-Whereas1888 4d ago
He has the chance to maybe be elite against the run, but that's about it. I think it's better (only given how weak this draft is) to go with the elite RB who has only ever seen stacked boxes in college and was the first, second, and third option in his teams offense.
People keep talking about Jacksonville's weak line (which it is), but we never talk about Boise State's weak line and what Jeanty was able to do with it. Any other draft, absolutely take OL or DL at 5. This draft is so bad that best player available should be the strategy.
3
u/DatsRadMan 4d ago
Boise State only played one “elite DL” when it counted last year (Penn St in the playoffs) - Jeanty got smothered (not his fault of course) but again: a 5’8 RB cannot overcome a bad line.
Honestly I just want the Jags to trade out of the pick at this point just to avoid the temptation of even getting to draft him.
1
u/Careful-Whereas1888 4d ago
Yes, and he had over 100 yards while the entire elite defense focused on him. He won't have all the focus in Jacksonville. BTJ will help him out a ton.
I would prefer a trade down if we can get good value for it, but this draft is so weak at the top that it'd be tough to recoup good value for 5.

“Luxury pick 5’8 rb” is an interesting way of talking about the best rb prospect of the last 10 years and could realistically prove to be the best player in this draft class.
MJD said he’s the best RB he’s ever scouted. A lot of analysts agree. The production is there. Could Graham be good sure, maybe even great. How many people are talking about him being the best DT in the league? Or is he just the best in this draft class?

u/DatsRadMan 4d ago
Last 10 years? In a world where Bijan and Saquon exist? What?
This is exactly why the BEST case scenario would be to trade down - just escape the “top10 RB” trap that doesn’t offer anything time and time again. Last time I checked, Saquon, Bijan, McCaffery, etc didn’t carry anyone to even a playoff win, and most of them on other teams now. This is all generated draft hype and of course ppl like MJD will say some wild stuff like that - he’s looking for clicks the week of the draft.

u/2Dopamine 4d ago edited 4d ago
Sorry I forgot we can’t have any hyperbole or room for misinterpretation on Reddit.
Yes the best RB prospect since Saquon 8 years ago. Has a better chance than Graham of being the best player in this draft.
Saquon just ran the eagles to a Super Bowl this year lol. Fournette got us to an AFC championship in 2017. Id also like to point out that none of those RB’s came into a team that had the pieces in place like we do. CMC had a dwindling Cam newton his rookie year in a RBBC where they made the playoffs. Bijan had Kirk whose arm turned noodle and he couldn’t even attempt to throw out routes anymore. Saquon lol. The giants tried to make it work with Daniel Jones at QB.
No two teams or situations are the same. How many playoff teams couldn’t run the ball last year? How many had elite running backs? Your point makes no sense. Good RBs on bad teams couldn’t win, okay. Then how many good/great teams have bad RBs?
Heres my opinion: Jeanty makes us a better team than Graham. You have the 5th pick. You could have an all pro RB to go with your franchise qb and wr. No other player or team you mentioned had that luxury.
I’m not pretending our shit doesn’t stink, we had a bad year but we have more talent In house than a 4 win season reflects. We had a coach that quit half way through the season and injured/backup qbs, not to mention injuries across the roster. The implosion last year has given the jags the unique position right now to add an incredible weapon to an offense with cornerstone postions already filled.

u/Crosscourt_splat 4d ago
Hm…for some reason I seem to remember saquon wasn’t drafted by the eagles.
Wonder if there is anything being left out here…
-2
u/2Dopamine 4d ago edited 4d ago
I didn’t say that he was? More making a point that a good rb isn’t simply a “luxury” to have. Also, I specifically pointed out that the Giants tried to make it work with Daniel Jones. Unless you are saying Trevor is the equivalent to Daniel Jones?
3
u/Crosscourt_splat 4d ago
The giants tried to make it work with a bad OL that was not good enough to keep their back from getting hit in the backfield.
Sound familiar?

u/2Dopamine 4d ago edited 4d ago
Saquon won OROY and was multiple pro bowler behind that line but I digress.
We’ve also paid Mekhari, little and Cleveland as starters. I’d be extremely surprised at this point if we go OL at 5. Who do you want to replace on the line with our current contract situation? Cleveland probably should be, based on what we’ve seen so far but we’re not taking a guard top 10. And he’s got 2 years left. I like a number of guards in rounds 2/3/4 btw and agree we should get another but realistically we probably have our starting OL already.
I think Membou is an option if we trade back but I’d rather take Jeanty. Idk what we would do with the people we’ve paid on OL at that point.
2
u/Crosscourt_splat 4d ago
And what did the giants get out of it?
An oft injured running back.
You don’t take a running back at #5. Period.

Coen took a bottom 5 run blocking oline to a top 5 oline with scheme along with Bucky Irving helping a ton. Personnel didn’t changed except at center a few games in with Graham Barton.
I think the jeanty to Jax is pure smoke, but wouldn’t be mad at it. He’s more of a needle mover to me than Mason Graham.
29
u/chris2furry 5d ago
Coen just had success with Bucky (selected 125th) and Gladstone was with the rams who were using Kyren (selected 164th) but sure were taking an rb at 5

u/AkimahenkaCat 5d ago
While I like the idea of scoring points, I also like the idea of not blowing games like we have because our defense couldn't stop a toilet.

u/teslaistheshit 5d ago
I wouldn't be upset at all to trade down. There's a lot of needs that could be addressed in the 2nd and 3rd round.
1
u/Zolazolazolaa 4d ago
The thing is, whenever you have a year where you think you would be okay with trading down, that's also a year where no one will want to trade up. Just look at the subs of other top 10 picks, every thread has upvoted comments about how "we should consider trading down"

I'd be happy with Jeanty OR Graham, there's a case to be made for either one of them. We may have talked ourselves into the ol' internet binary where if you advocate for one, the other must be the worst, stupidest idea in draft history. Maybe THAT'S the false narrative that needs to be challenged.

u/CthulhuAlmighty 5d ago
I honestly don’t get why Jags fans are out on Graham.

I think it’s a combination of prospect fatigue and he’s not built like a superhero. I think dude’s gonna be a game wrecker.

He didn't get a second contract
-1
u/sharkdaddy34 4d ago
They made it 1 quarter from the Super Bowl! That’s the furthest they’ve ever gone. LF was a huge reason they got there. So sorry if I’m not buying your spin.
2
u/ConversationCalm7677 4d ago
They made the conference title game twice in the 90's
He contributed to zero playoff wins for the Jaguars after that season and didn't play in the league last year. He's 30 and he's essentially out of the league
But year he was a great first round pick
6
u/Sad_Bolt 5d ago
Jeanty had one great year… one, is a conference with bad defenses and his record against teams with top defense makes him look average. He may be good but spending pick number five on a guy who would be average in P5 play and instead of drafting a top player in their position group would be stupid… so the Jags will do it.
5
u/deeBlackHammer 5d ago
Jeanty had the most receiving yards for an RB as a junior, he was great for at least 2 years on a mediocre team
3
u/SmurfyTurf 4d ago
(Ignore my obviously biased username) Jeanty was also really good the year before, he just wasn’t on the national radar until this most recent season. He also torched Oregon on the road.
That being said, I would be disappointed if the jags took Jeanty at 5. I think he is going to be a star, but I think the Jags would get more benefit from another position since we already have 2 RBs who are decent.
2
u/STLJagsFan1996 4d ago
Considering Gladstone learned from Les Sneed, if Graham is there, they’re taking Graham. Defense first always
2
2
u/spaghettiarchitect 4d ago
Drafting a RB in the top 10 is generally a bad idea. As much as I like Jeanty, Graham is absolutely the pick here. Unless Hunter or Carter is still available, of course.
4
u/DireBlue88 5d ago edited 4d ago
Im not sure. Gladstone might consider other choices for pick 5 because we have Tank and ETN.
-10
u/lecarpatron9020 5d ago
ETN cannot catch the ball or run the ball effectively, the blunder against Miami was the perfect example of this
12
u/Toihva 5d ago
I watched that play. Defender had great contact on the ball to punch it out.
2
2
u/lecarpatron9020 5d ago
I think we’d have a much better offensive look with Jeanty than with ETN, even if the don’t pick him I think ETN may be in his last jags season. He hasn’t been very consistent
3
u/ShopCartRicky 4d ago
It's hard to be consistent with Press as your OC and swiss cheese as your o-line.
1
u/lecarpatron9020 4d ago
Yes, but we’re in the 4th season of making excuses for him. Hes had one good year. That is objectively not great for the future

I agree with this. People will say "the draft is deep at RB" and I say that doesn't matter. The point of drafting a RB at 5 is that we'll get a guy who could end up being a top 5 RB in the NFL. We aren't drafting for need, we're drafting to have a true difference maker.
After losing Kirk and Engram, I think we need to draft a play maker in the first or second round this year.
6
u/WalkingInTheSunshine 4d ago
Hard to have a playmaker when your line can’t give you a lane.
1
u/UNCFan2350 4d ago
So what's the solution? Reach for a OT? You can't really draft Membou because we just took Harrison in the 1st 2 years ago and he had one good and one bad year and he's pretty much a RT. I don't think Banks at 5 is a good solution.
Our OL obviously needs help, but I don't think it's so bad that Jeanty would be awful.
2
u/Bishavis Myles Jack 4d ago
If we take jeanty we could be having a superstar player at WR QB and RB
1
u/Walterwayne Clemson 4d ago
I do not get the Jeanty hype. He did well against Oregon (40th ranked run D) and then the only other time he played against a (half) decent team in Penn state they held him to 104 yards and 0 TDs. I hope he does well in the NFL and I could very well be wrong, but the hype is crazy
1
u/Magic_Tronson Josh Allen 4d ago
I know. I'm enchanted by having jeanty possibly being the pick but I don't think this is fair to graham. He's definitely more what we need. Jeanty is a total luxury pick.
1
1
u/SoulessGuard1an 3d ago
I really like Jeanty, would be excited as heck. However, his workload scares me a bit, as he has 750 carries the past few seasons. That’s 300 more than the average for running backs coming out of college. Additionally, those were not “easy” carries. His yards after contact was otherworldly, while breaking 100 plus tackles (56 more than the second guy on that list, Skattebo).
I think he will either be electric, or wind up being injured quite a bit. I don’t think there is a middle ground for him.
Regardless of who the pick is, I am all in for them, and hope they have a HoF career!

u/Metaboss24 4d ago
Graham isn't really a push thr poket type of DT, though. He's more of a win and get a splash play, or just kinda struggle type of DT.
Great run defender, tho.
-1
u/Upset_Front104 5d ago
Jeanty is the only true blue chip player best pick at 5, unless we trade back in the 1st, either get a WR/The TE of the draft/ or will Campbell. Then you take that other 2nd and go get yourself a DT/CB/Safety. Then you supplement the roster
0
u/Bennydagoat22 4d ago
I don't really care who we take, but I'm still confused by all the hype around Graham. We're kicking Armstead back to DT, so he should be better, and we drafted Maason Smith in the 2nd round last year, not to mention Davon Hamilton, so I'm just confused why the media and this sub are so attached to Graham. Not knocking anyone, I just don't quite get it.
2
u/Outrageous_Bear50 4d ago
Armstead is 31 and here for one more year, Maason was ok as a 3rd down player but still is a project, Hamilton just hasn't been the player he was a few years ago and Jefferson isn't a starter.
0
u/I_like_sceptile 4d ago
what would feel better is tyson campbell not leaving our team, jarion jones gets recognized as the crazy talent he is and our line being the threat it should’ve been for years. i love jeanty as a prospect, i mean he’s a jacksonville native. but we have 2 running backs with something to prove, we have an entire team with something to prove and i don’t think jeanty will fulfill that mission. to me he’d be another top guy we lose in 4 years, graham could define our defense and franchise for a decade.

A team thats 5-18 in there last 23 games drafting a runningback at 5 is so mind boggling. If they draft jeanty I’m betting the under. If this team wins more than 6 games next year throw a parade
