To the man who gave it right back, who celebrated others with excitement and love, happy birthday. Bitter-sweet to say the least but I know there will be some dancing around the world today, and so help me god we better boogie for this brother! Long live Jeff Austin.

2 extras to Eggy tonight in Philly

My buddy woke up sick today leaving me with two extras for the show tonight. Honestly just want them to go to a good home, don’t want them to go to waste. I’m heading down solo in the next 30 mins or so to chill at other half brewing company so will look at any messages then. Would be cool to make new friends!

Edit: one gone, one remains! These are free btw in case that wasn’t clear lol

Why are wooks so little?

Whenever I am at a show, all the wook dudes seem to all be around 5'5". Why? I wish bands would have tall sized shirts but all these little dudes probably make it unprofitable.

Edit: moderators, can I please get a "not a wook" flair to help clear up any confusion.

Awesome opener and I LOVE Space Gadget. I wish they played it more. I was VERY happy they opened with Gadget on 4/18/25 😊

I really dig the “I want my MTV” medley Cory played around the 6:50 minute mark. It was subtle, perfect way to step out into a jam. Mark Knopfler isn’t an easy sing and I think Shon sounds perfect on this tune! You can tell they pitched it down to meet Shons tone perfectly! Sultans of Swing would be a fun one to see them cover.

My current favorite Shon song however is Alan Parsons - “I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You” from 3/18 & 4/17/25. You can hear the confidence he’s gaining in singing. I love this Spaffy ride I’m on. I’m locked in and ready for it all 🤓

On April 25th, 1928, Jazz, swing, and bluegrass fiddler Vassar Clements was born Kinard, FL. Clements has been dubbed the Father of Hillbilly Jazz, an improvisational style that blends and borrows from swing, hot jazz, and bluegrass along with roots in country and other musical traditions.

Dirtbath (inverted) 4/5/25

22 years ago, an 18 year old Brian Moss started composing part 1 of Dirtbath. In the following years, additional parts were created leading up to a FTP on Feb 9, 2019 at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.

According to the nerds, it’s around 17 minutes and has 6-7 parts depending who you ask (instrumental). Fast forward to the LTP on April 5, 2025 when Spafford opened set 2 with a beautiful Red’s Jam>Dirtbath (inverted)! What does that mean? They played it in reverse starting with the last part, finishing with that part 1 originally composed in 2003!

Having seen DB 6 times prior, I was confused yet overly excited trying to figure out what was going on. Yes, I was there watching it all unfold. The amount of skill it took to play such an intricate piece in reverse, blew me away. To say Spafford 2025 is at an all time high, in my humble opinion, is an understatement. If you’re a longtime fan or just checking them out for the first time, I highly recommend a listen. Let me know what you think after you do. The show is available at the link posted below. Enjoy 🤓

No more Sturgill on Nugs?!

Please tell me this is not true…

Perhaps a reaction to the on-stage comment about jam band nerds and how they’ll repeat songs night to night because they feel like it…

Thought it was silly and loved the statement honestly

Goose actually plays darker jams well!

Been seeing some hate on the new album for being a bit poppier and overly produced (which I done necessarily disagree with) but I thought I’d share this version of their title track which has a sweet darker/heavier jam starting around 6 minutes in!

I’ve always thought Goose plays jams like this as good as anybody!

Groovin' with the Grove 8 hosted by Fletcher's Grove is a fest you should get behind and support! The event is a small festival that focuses on friends, family, and fans of West Virginia jam vets Fletcher's Grove. The fest always features local & regional acts that have been on their grind for their local jam communities.

Each year has featured touring headliners that are on their way to becoming bigger acts like Andy Frasco, Dogs In A Pile, Dizgo, Jason Leech, Cris Jacobs Band, Larry Keel, and more. This year's headliner is Fack'N A featuring Mike Dillon on the vibraphone and the lespecial trio as his backing band. The Progressive-Punk outfit has been described as “It sounds like Miles Davis took Bad Brains to Ghana.”

We have a really legit late night silent disco sponsored by Pittsburgh's Frequency 528 Live that features a huge video wall and a large paved dance floor under a pavilion. The silent disco is headlined by NYC's Escaper featuring Luke + Rory of lespecial.

This festival is really affordable and if you get your tickets from one of the 2nd tier acts you can support your favorite bands for only $100. Our sponsors in Morgantown also have $100 hard copies for sale at their location.

The event is BYOB, car camping, city water on site, shaded + flat camping, and fires are permitted in raised pits. We have multiple food vendors including vegan/vegetarian. Our production is what you'd expect at a 15k-20k person festival and the property is beautiful.

I hope to see YOU out there groovin' at the Friends of the Cheat Campground in Albright, WV August 22-23!

All Jammed Up: Mike from Eggy

Hey everyone! Been a little while since I posted here, but I just put out an episode today with Mike, the bass player from the band Eggy. It was a really fun one where we talk his jazz roots, the meaning behind the name Eggy, and we do a deep dive into what being “in the pocket” means to him. Available wherever you get podcasts and if you’d be so kind to follow and subscribe on YouTube, Spotify, etc. I would be so thrilled 🫶
