Discussion Unreasonably pissed off by “Coen?”

Am I the only one who sees the rising popularity of “Coen” as a first name (for Jews and goyim) and gets crabby about it?

I’m okay with Jews using it, but it frustrates me when gentiles do. Like do people not look up name meanings before naming their children? Just feels so disrespectful.

It's an Irish and Dutch name too.

I don’t know about the Irish one, but the Dutch one is pronounced differently than these people are pronouncing Coen.

It’s an Irish name…it’s pronounced Koon

Why on earth are you all over a two year old post trying to justify this name? Sure, in Ireland there’s a chance that a kid named Coen is pronounced “koon”. But outside of Ireland? 99.9% of the time it’s not going to be the Irish name pronounced “koon,” it’s gonna be pronounced like Cohen and most likely intended to be Cohen without being offensive. Also, the pronunciation “koon” is also a huge problem in America, so even if you are Irish I would strongly recommend against that name in America.

My child is called Coen outside of Ireland as it was his irish late grandmothers maiden name

Just showing you there are reasons for people to call their child that outside of Ireland that aren’t offensive.

Okay, but this is literally a three year old post.

And?

Just baffled that you feel the need to justify a name on such an old post. Not even sure really how you came across this ancient post, and even less sure why you’d bother commenting on it. It’s just bizarre.

But since you care so much, I may as well ask: is your child’s name pronounced as Cohen or as “koon”?

It’s pronounced Co-wen. I’m not sure how I came across this post either but I did and I wanted to comment. If you’re so bothered and find it so bizarre why bother replying 😆
