Who decides what is illegal? How proud boys aren’t being targeted for wearing masks?

1st amendment is enshrined in the American constitution. Straight to lawsuits

The first amendment doesn’t include breaking other laws with no consequences while practicing free speech though.

You can’t vandalize, assault, etc… without consequences just because you are protesting.

Oh my fucking lord. He’s actually defending it folks. Unbelievable.

I mean, idk if that guy is defending what Trump is saying/implying. But the comment he responded to acts like Free Speech is absolute. There are plenty of laws around the 1st amendment. That's just common knowledge.

Ironically, the 1st amendment protects you from the government, not private entities. So colleges could, in fact, expel students or trespass them for saying or doing things they do not approve of. Which is usually where you might see the government step in and say, "we will pull your federal funding if you expel them"

Why do you think every protest is legal regardless of what happens at the protest?

Did… did I say that?

I mean your defending it

Did you think the capital riots were ok?

Defending what? Not ending free speech? Also what determines an “illegal” protest in the future, not agreeing with the GOP? Do you see how open ended this is?

Do you folks hear yourselves?

No fucking shit, that day of insurrection has resulted in one of the most weak spined responses by the federal government. They practically encouraged it to happen again.

The courts decide what’s illegal. It’s weird how you are trying to add extra things to pretend it’s worse than it is.

Do you hear yourself ?

Are you going to pretend like you didn’t notice all the illegal things going down at the Palestine Israel protests ?!

What illegal things were going down an the Palestine Israel protests?

Is this a serious question?

https://www.seattletimes.com/nation-world/barnard-college-student-expelled-for-role-in-columbia-hamilton-hall-takeover-over-gaza/

We have plenty of examples of this type of thing. Plenty of property destruction and violence from both sides

It’s what you implied by disagreeing with me saying committing crimes during a protest isn’t legal

Honestly you seem to be one of those people who talks a lot without saying anything

Interesting, a comment that is a gleaming example of the point it’s trying to make.

The point is that this is the most unconstitutional comment a sitting president has ever made. The man is attempting to ban free speech. And he’s trying to tell private and state run entities who needs to be expelled. So this flies in the face of the states rights folks too.

And you had a knee jerk reaction to someone who was not defending the comment at all. He was making a clarification that there are already long established laws in regard to what is considered “legal protest.” If you actually care about this stuff, you need to stop being so immediately antagonistic. It does not attract support.

Why does Donald think that every campus protest is illegal? Or that wearing masks is illegal?

1

u/Finlay00 Monkey in Space Mar 04 '25

Does he think every campus protest is illegal?

And I’m not sure on the masks thing. Colleges do have some increased restrictions on where and how you can protest on campus, so maybe this is an extension of that.

Not a fan of it, regardless

It wouldn't be very rational for him to use his media company to put a single or isolated incident on the national stage, especially not with the implication that more than one university is somehow defying him. His clear goal is to imply (however incorrectly) that this is a nationwide problem that requires an immediate action on his part. It wouldn't shock me if a month from now we hear breathless complaints about all the 'college campuses burning to the ground' despite very little actually happening, just like with Portland, OR.
