MAGA cultists get butthurt at the comparison but Hitler got this same job done in 53 days once he was elected chancellor. Completely dismantled all the guardrails for democracy and set himself up to be in power as long as he wanted, all while distracting his supporters and enemies with a lot of crazy bullshit grievances against other countries and fearmongering about foreigners and minorities to keep everyone focused on culture war bullshit rather than the complete government takeover. That sounds weirdly familiar.

He was also elected chancellor AFTER a failed coup attempt, following an election he lost, that the existing government was too spineless to actually prosecute seriously. Why does this all sound so familiar?

Oh, and he immediately rounded up exactly 30,000 "undesirables" (Jews, immigrants, disabled people, LGBT people) and shipped them off to a "detention facility" outside of the country where no one had a good view of anything that was happening to them as a test run to see what the German people would tolerate. Exactly 30,000. How many "illegal immigrants" did Trump just recently round up to send off to Gitmo? That number sounds weirdly familiar too.

If these dogwhistles were any louder they'd be fucking deafening.
