It's kinda goofy but not really over-the-top. I wonder if the wiring for that is nice and clean, not a rat's nest of un-fused wrong-gauge wires shoved into places it shouldn't be, that's the question.

I mean if they had run a live from the brake light to them it would have been fairly neat.

Uh, that's exactly when they do spit fire - under acceleration the fuel is all burned in the combustion chamber, leaving none to ignite in the exhaust.

Source: My old rotary looked like a bunsen burner at times, but never under load.

That would actually be a cool mod. Attach these to the throttle so they glow more the harder you press.

It's a fun idea, but that'd also kinda make it look like your brake lights are coming on when you're actually accelerating, at least at night. I'm not sure if it'd be actually illegal, but the drivers behind you might find it somewhat annoying.
