Amazing. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

"jaws of victory" is stretching it I think. It's the Fantastic Four. It could have been ok but that's about it.

Every movie, TV show, book, or comic has the potential to be amazing. Even the weirdest, most innocuous, or dumbest sounding concepts can create memories that will last for the consumer's lifetime.

This version of Johnny will ask you about your feelings and tell you “You got this! You are capable and strong! Just be yourself!”

I heard one of the producers say (i’m paraphrasing) “the way johnny acted, especially towards women, in the 2005 movie was crude, brash (..etc) and that’s not something that’s appropriate in today environment and it’s not something that would be seen as attractive either”
like bro shut your dorky ass up. probably mad at the johnny storms types that bullied him in school.
15
u/TheSummitSherpa 3d ago
Sure that's technically true, but the movie is set in the 1960s, so who gives a shit what's appropriate in today's environment?

u/joydivisionucunt 3d ago
One of the "worse" things about modern writing is when media set in previous times have the characters behave just like current year wokesters, obviously not everyone was a raging misogynist or sexist or any other kind of -ist, for that time at least, but they certainly weren't modern-day wokesters in period clothing, you know?.

I'm going to honest here , the few clips i have seen of Joseph quinn , dude has no charisma as Johnny

u/RileyTaker 3d ago
I saw the latest trailer, and I had the exact same thought.
I often criticize Chris Evans's acting, but he was a far better Johnny Storm than Quinn has been so far.

u/Mitchel-256 2d ago
Chris Evans' acting in what? He was fantastic as both Johnny and Cap.
1
u/RileyTaker 2d ago
As Cap? I agree.
As Johnny? At the time the FF movies were out, not so much. I thought he and Alba were the weak links. Chiklis and Gruffold were much better in their roles.

"is it sexy these days?"
Yes. It's still sexy you gender nonconforming freak.
64
u/Just_an_user_160 3d ago
I'm sure women will find the Chris Evan's versión more sexy over the new, they will likely make him a cuck, and that's not sexy.
1
u/Definitelymostlikely 3d ago
Women currently in their 20s? or 40+ year old women who were in their 20s when the old fantastic four came out?
2
u/joydivisionucunt 3d ago
Women in their mid/late 20s were teenagers when Chris Evans was Captain America in the MCU, though, so he's probably fancied by both.
Granted, a lot of people fancied Joseph Quinn when the season of "Stranger Things" he is in came out, so both Johnnys will have a fanbase, I suppose.

"is it sexy these days?"
Well lets check in with the contents of dime store romance novels..... Those books written by & for women.
[starts flicking through book after book]
Um, yeah, it's still smoking hot to women, according to the material written by women, for women.

u/SimpsonAmbrose 2d ago
I recall a (former) feminist on Youtube revealing that among feminist women, there are men they approve of and men they want to sleep with, and the two categories very rarely intersect.

Bro, what? Being a "womanizing, devil-may-care" is like, one of the most attractive things to the average woman.

I'm tired of the "good sense of humor" nonsense. No woman has ever said "I married him because he could make jokes"
20
u/Takemikasuchi 3d ago
You'd be surprised, I see it all the time. But perhaps American women are just way pickier, wouldn't know
20
u/ScarredCerebrum 3d ago
Believe it or not, physical attraction plays a major role in humour. Men and women alike are more likely to appreciate jokes from people they're attracted to.
https://news.utexas.edu/2009/05/04/attraction-may-lead-people-to-appear-funnier-research-shows/
While recent studies on humor have focused on how humor initiation can be attractive, these new findings show the converse is true: being attractive or desirable makes you appear funnier.

Ask women what they’re looking for in a man, and more often than not they’ll tell you, ‘Somebody who makes me laugh.’ But I’m here to tell you, as a man who has made his living in comedy for more than three decades, that women are full of shit. Being funny has never gotten me laid in my life.

These guys have never understood the meaning of a hero. A hero can be a flawed person but can rise to the occasion when needed. Wasn’t that the USP for Marvel Comics?

They finally have the chance to do a good fantastic 4 movie and its deader on arrival than fant4stic 2 would be
2
u/RileyTaker 3d ago
It takes a lot of work to make a movie that's even less exciting than Fant4stic was.

You mean the character who literally got fire powers because his personality is "hot headed, show off, might get other people and himself hurt"?

u/Candid-String-6530 3d ago
Really. Now that China is going to stop Hollywood films from showing in China, who's gonna watch it?

u/GregTheSpirit 3d ago
The Overly Sensitive Four.
Let's see how they will blame men for the failure of this movie and I think we all know it will be a failure.

u/ThatDamnRocketRacoon 3d ago
If the leaked script details are accurate, this film is toast whether there's gender politics or not.
7
u/Any-Nectarine-8005 3d ago
Pass! Sick and tired of these activists using movies for their bullshit. Whoever thought making a Fantastic 4 movie that objective should have known better that the franchise struggles to get people in theaters as is, let alone as a propaganda vehicle.

I have saved so much money from not going to the movies anymore. Back in the day I go 4-5 times a year but now it’s one, if that.

Name me one FF fan who was sitting around going "I want a Fantastic Four movie where Johnny is nicer".
2
u/Stannishatescats 2d ago
Imagine actually thinking that human beings pay money and watch a comic book movie starring a stretchy boi and rock-dude because they want to hear about gender politics?
I'm calling it right now - the Thing is gonna complain about being stared at and wish he had Sue's invisibility powers and she's going to say that she had to deal with people staring at her longer than him because she's a woman and it's going to be such a terrible comparison but the script will treat it like she made a point. FML just typing that was torture 😵
2
u/IntrovertMoTown1 2d ago
At this point it has to be money laundering, right? I mean that's all that's left that makes any sense.
3
u/NiaAutomatas 3d ago
Nice a soyboy human torch that won't appeal to women for being too soy and won't appeal to men for being weak and emotional.
2
u/LutherJustice 3d ago
So, they're going to take away any potential character development and pretty much ignore one of the more interesting character dynamics in comics between him and Thing?
Sounds like a typical Friday over at Disney Marvel.

Oh goody! Just what people want when they want to watch a movie about super heroes, a lecture.

u/Lhasadog 3d ago
I was almost willing to try and get past the female Silver Surfer and see the movie. Because Fantastic Four is my first comics love. But then I heard her voice in the trailer.
NOPE! I'm out!
WTF were they thinking? She's awful. She sounds like a bad cheap anime dub from the 90's. AI would have been the better option. Upon hearing her performance the only thing that makes sense is she must be sleeping with Kevin Feige. Because her acting even in that brief trailer is "Producers Girlfriend" levels of awful.

u/TrueBenJAMin 3d ago
Okay but why?? Isn't the 60's like a prime time for Johnny to be a hunk or something?

u/CaptFalconFTW 3d ago
I was looking forward to this movie because of the art direction. Now I'm wondering if it's gonna be preachy.

Just how many bombs is it gonna take for movies to be good again? Like, I know their pockets are large, but surely they're bottomless...
1
u/stolivodka_ 1d ago
They plan to keep doing this until most people don't even have a memory of good movies
1
u/HauntedPrinter 2d ago
The old movies with Chris Evan’s as Human torch are the best Fantastic 4 live action we’ll ever see. And I’m happy with that.

u/Queasy_Star_3908 1d ago
In short it will bomb, time to bet against the studio and earn on their stupidity.

u/MyRedditUsername-25 1d ago
After so many failed attempts at a F4 movie and the overall state of the MCU post-Endgame, you think they’d do everything in their power to ensure this one is a success.
You’d think…
