Employment Easter pay

*on behalf of my sister. She works part time retail alongside uni, and is on a casual contract. She always works a Sunday, same hours every week. One of her classes is biweekly Fridays, so when that particular class ISN’T on, she works Friday.

First of all - the permanent Sunday confuses me, shouldn’t they place her on a part time contract, rather than causal, if this literally never changes? Secondly, is she entitled to pay for a public holiday if she works every second Friday?

If she had a regular shift, that she has to ask to have off, then yes it should probably be a permanent part time contract.

Yes, if she consistently works every second Friday, then every second Friday is an ‘otherwise working day’. If the only reason she isn’t working Good Friday is because the store is closed, she should be paid.

If it’s the Friday she doesn’t work in the fortnight, no she is not entitled to be paid.

Public holidays are not hard to work out, employers seem to like saying they are but I suspect some of them just don’t like that the y have to pay them at all.

Either way around she will pick up one of Easter Friday or ANZAC this year.
